What do we do? 1. Rely on Wilson and draft a corner in the third for that #3 spot? 2. Sign a semi-reasonable contract CB like Carlos Rogers, Johnathan Joseph, Ike Taylor? And have Wilson at 3 again 3. Sign a lower grade corner for 1 or 2 years like Richard Marshall, Josh Wilson, Brian Williams, Al Harris and rely on them and Wilson opposite Revis till next year or when Wilson becomes a #2 option. 4.Use the money we'd sign Cro with and sign a guy like Dawan Landry or Tanard Jackson? ( Assuming we sign back Holmes and Edwards)
Jonathan Joseph will cost more than Antonio Cromartie. If Cro leaves, Wilson has to step up and fill that role.
I think Joseph will be overpayed, I threw him in there because I thought he'd sign right around what Cro might sign maybe a little bit less to play on a SB potential team like the Jets. But CB hungry teams will give him an idiotic contract to make sure he plays on their team.
I voted for put money towards safety but I meant that in put that money towards the defense. Whether that's towards 3 players or 1 I don't want to sign a big-ticket DB necessarily. I think Wilson can become a pretty good cornerback and a solid #2 behind Revis. He has the physical tools to play cornerback he just seems to be a bit slow mentally. He's gotta start getting his head around and understanding coverages/routes and he should be good, especially with the sideline helping him out vs playing the nickel.
Jonathan Joseph is one of the better corners in the league. He'll deserve every dollar he gets (unless it's an Asomugha-type deal).
Vet CB to be the 3rd CB, split with Drew in the nickel, and spot start if KDub goes down. It's the only intelligent option they have.
K-Dub's had a full season to grow and learn and get better. This is year 2 for him now. He's not gonna be a lock-down corner this year and he's gonna have his fair share of miscues. We need to let him have it this start from the get go and take the good with the bad and let him learn in game situations now. Sign a low-end free agent and stick him in there for depth and let the back ups fight for that nickel spot. I got faith in Kyle Wilson, I really wanna see him excel. A lot of us tend to take Revis for granted. There's what? 2, maybe 3 corners in the entire NFL that can take 1 player away without any help.
Thats exactly what I would do.....forget Cro and one of Edwards/Holmes, I would get Ocho, T.O. or another free agent cheap wideout and spend the money on Aso. I know I am going to get flamed but T.O. can still play and I would rather have Aso/T.O. then Cro/Holmes or Edwards.
There is no reason whatsoever to think that Wilson has developed enough to start. First of all I am extremely skeptical that the team is even prepared to consider that option, so it's kind of a waste to talk about it. I could be wrong, but on this one? Almost certainly not. The fourth option assumes Wilson starts, too, so while the team may well upgrade at safety, the implication of the fourth option is also incorrect. If Cro does not come back, the team will be virtually certain to bring in another corner, and I also am doubtful any high pick will be used at CB. It makes no sense. Better to cover the short term with either Cro or some other vet CB and wait to see what happens with Wilson, then to use another high draft pick at CB.
I made the mistake of selecting to draft a CB, but the Jets can't really do that considering our other needs. The only option is to sign a vet 3rd CB. Let Wilson play, and hope he's developed enough. I'm still hopeful Cro will be back and KDub will develop into a Revis-esque slot corner.
