Didn't Chi pay big money for Peppers? This is a league w/ Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder desperate for winners- you don't think another team will spend big for a guys like Holmes, Edwards and Cromartie?
Because Tanny tagged most of them with RFA tenders that would stick under these rules. Edwards is the one we'd have to worry about, but I'm confident he could secure him. If Synder or Jones want to give us a 1st and a 3rd for Holmes or Cromartie then that's good for us.
peppers was the only one who got a huge deal, and he is worth what he got. compare it to any other offseason and it was relatively tame.remeber no cap means no floor either and as pissed as the owners are right now do you really think they are going to throw money around like it's nothing.
Teams are going to give up a 1st and a 3rd AND throw big money at Holmes in an uncapped year with no sense of where the cap heads next year? Why do that when Sidney Rice can be had for a 1st alone? And if some team DID sign away Holmes, how is that a significantly bad thing for us in the long run? We have one less contract to worry about and two relatively inexpensive players coming in the draft.
It's bad b/c we lose one of the most talented players on our team. It's nice to get picks but I'll take Holmes entering his prime w/ Sanchez over a 1st and 3rd rd pick.
Everyone will. You're twisting the argument to suggest that anyone would want the picks over Holmes. My primary point was that I couldn't see anyone actually giving up a 1st and a 3rd for him. Secondary to that is the fact that in the unlikely scenario in which he departs, it's not the end of the world to get a 1st and a 3rd back. Hence why I used the modifier "significantly". It would be a step down, but not drastically.
Itd be pretty hard for me to complain about getting a 1st and 3rd for a guy that you traded a 5th round draft pick for just a year ago. Not to mention it would help us keep up with New England in the long haul. They already have like 6 picks in the first 3 rounds, this would give us 4 (2 of which are first rounders) Though i think we should all be hoping someone makes Cromartie an offer. Either a first, or a 2nd and a 3rd, or 2 2nds (I dont think wed get this much but ya never know) for him would be a hell of a deal for us. And its not THAT much of a stretch (getting a 1st and 3rd for him is though) considering that we just gave up a 2nd round pick for him, and that was when he appeared significantly more of a risk. At least this year he proved that he can still play at an elite level, that he can go toe to toe with the best WRs in the nfl, and that hes not as much of a liability as people thought. Hell doesnt Al Davis need a new corner ? I hear Cromartie is pretty fast too, hope Tanny gets him on the line
You're making the assumption that Doty rules and it gets through appeals before the draft. That's an awfully unlikely scenario. Our picks would likely come in next year's draft.
I'm not twisting anything, again 8 years ago no one thought anyone would sign Coles w/ his 1st rd tender. It had never been done at that time. That doesn't mean it cannot happen. I think Holmes is vital to the continued development of Sanchez. Outside of last year NE hasn't drafted well in 5-6 years, I want to win games nto get draft picks. We can get quality players where we are drafting now, I'd like more picks but not at the expense of Holmes. I wouldn't mind at all if someone signed Cromartie, that we can agree on.
I wouldnt have a complaint with that. Some stud offensive lineman in next years draft. Gives us a chance to give Slauson and Ducasse a real chance to prove that theyre our future. If not then we can completely rebuild our offensive line and running game in next years draft (with LT gone).
Well the other issue with Holmes is we would still have to give him a huge contract after his one year tender. And im not convinced we would. But I do agree having him Braylon and Jco would have a huge impact on Sanchez. The only question is whether Holmes would stay for a while (in which case the draft picks arent worth it) or if Holmes is gonna be gone after this season.
I am nervous about giving Braylon and Holmes long term, huge deals but I think they are risks we kind of need to take and hope they don't do anything stupid to get suspended again/
lmao I despise that fucktard. I dont even understand why he's the Jets writer? He's obviously right though but the possibility of that just sucks. Although what other team could offer him what the Jets can? Money and a possible ring.
Good thing about Braylon is I can feel pretty confident he wont just take the highest offer to go play for a shit team. We have all heard about how miserable he was in Cleavland. Will a contender want to offer him a lot more than the Jets would be willing to give him? I like the Jets chances there.
