I'd like to see at least Woody and Jenks resigned to smaller deals, but both were going to be out within the next two years. Gholston, GTFO

Lets get Holmes and Edwards locked up

As long as the money goes to signing Edwards, Holmes and either Cromatrie or getting Aso, I think it is a great move.

That's kind of untrue... I mean it's true but Taylor had a 12 mill $ bonus coming that he would've never ever seen... so don't let that number misguide you. Also I believe Gholston had a 2.5 mill bonus coming up.

That said Woody and Jenks are two very good leaders and they'll be missed in the locker room... but financially and injury/age-wise this move makes all the sense in the world. Hopefully we can re-sign them for cheap and have them around one more year (Woody as a replacement for Hunter/Ducasse if they don't work out and Jenkins as a NT on 3rd down).

I was a Hunter hater for the first games he started but I must say afterwards he was pretty solid... hopefully he and Ducasse will battle it out for RT.
I'm hoping for this year Hunter is the RT and Ducasse plays Hunter's 6th OL role (which is very important for the Jets).

I also reaaaaally hope we'll keep Turner around... but I think he'll want to go and start some place else. After all he doesn't give a fuck...

Jenkins I can see coming back for a paycut. Woody knew he was going. Its a business.

good point mambo i was going to say something similar. i do wonder what the actual cap savings are as i dont really give a damn how much actual money it costs woody to do anything.

to just say we save 24 million in bonus and salary means nothing to me.

$24 mil is a huge deal, we could split that between Santonio, Braylon, and Cro along, say, 9/8/7 million lines. I can definitely see Jenks coming back at a (very) reduced price; we'll probably draft an OLB to replace Taylor/Ghost. Jets will be fine at RT with Hunter/Vlad.

Agreed on both accounts. Of these four, Woody and Jenks are the 2 I'm most sad to see go. However, I'd much rather get our 2 receivers under contract and worry about re-signing these guys later.

But not 24 million in cap space. Huge difference.

They don't save anywhere near 24 million in cap space. This doesn't make it any easier to sign the WR's. Most around here have been talking about how to re-sign assuming these moves. It will still be difficult.

I know this is a dumb question but if the new CBA doesn't get done by March 4, will the Jets still be able to sign free agents? or do they have to wait for a deal?

That's a huge cap benefit. Gholston was done and the other guys are so far up there in age. Shouldn't be too hard to find replacements if we don't resign anyone.
