i think that was his point.. he is 300 lbs of fat and has so little of that 300 as muscle mass that he cant even lift 225 lbs.
Next time someone says something negative about fREX RYAN, Tell them to open their and take it. REX IS THE MAN.
That's the point. Of course the standard for how much you should be able to bench lowers as your weight goes up. I believe an intermediate lifter somewhere slightly above 220 pounds has their body weight to ORM bench weight dip below 1.0. Either way, I know he's not a player, but you'd expect a coach to be in better shape than that. We all love Rex, but the fact that he's out of shape is well known.
How many head coaches are in good physical shape? Doesn't look like Belichick is putting up 225 either that must be why he didnt win a ring this year.
Seriously. Deadspin does everything they can to make a non-story about the Jets into a huge deal. That is, of course, after they tried to bury the Big Ben story during Super Bowl week. That, evidently, wasn't a story, but this is.
I wouldn't say little muscle mass. Rex is a former DT in college. Its not like he's purely obese. I don't think there are many HCs who can put up 225 one time. That's a lot of weight. He was fucking around.
Still. Its not like it all goes away and now he's 80% fat. Little muscle mass is unfair. I'd say some, but not little.
Rex is the man. Damn, I wish coaches had Jerseys so I can buy a Rex Jersey. Giving the bench a shot is fucking impressive. So many people must look at it at the combine & punk out or go to the gym & when nobody is looking try to bench the same weight. Just being too afraid what everyone else would say.

I think BP brought him here in '97 then he left late in the Herm years. He is a well respected S&C coach
It's not a lot of weight for a 300+ pound man. It's cool that he jumped on there and f'd around, but a little disappointing he couldn't get at least 1 rep. *shrug*
The weight helps with lower body strength, there isn't much difference with a guy 150 pounds and 300+ pounds when it comes to something like the bench press
