LaDainian Tomlinson willing to accept reduced role for Jets in 2011, contemplates retirement BY Manish Mehta So willing to accept reduced role(dont cut me please), or considering retirement(im getting cut) I would like LT in a 3RB system as the primary back that is a threat out the backfield(or guy to kill the Buffalo Bills)
the question is...will LT be content with a reduced role? I believe this is Shonn Greene's team now, and as much as I'd like to see LT take a back seat, I'm not sure his ego or Schotty's loyalty to him will allow LT to accept a reduced role.
If McKnight had made better progress this season I think that LT would definitely be gone. However he didn't show enough to warrant a #2 spot behind Greene who needs a partner. Is it possible it could come down to LT vs TRich for a roster spot?
i wouldn't mind lt back as the 3rd down back.but greene needs to be the starter getting 20-25 carries a game.give mcknight about 8 touches a game.then he and lt would be fresh for the playoffs and you ride the hot hand.
I don't expect TRich to come back. Its Conner's job now as the FB and there won't be 2 FBs with 3 RBs on the 45 man list. I am hoping LT comes back for his 2nd year. I think he had some great moments, great leadership qualities and his check down abilities will continue to keep Mark playing at a high level until Green & McKnight can get glue on their hands.
I think TR will retire... but it will be interesting to see if we roll with 2 FBs next season too... That Jason Davis guy supposedly had good hands for a FB and the CS liked him... but didn't he kind of act like a bitch when they cut him? Maybe we'll see him back.
It's easy to say that he doesn't mind not starting, but once its actually happening he might not be so happy about it. That being said, i hope he comes back as the #2 or 3 behind Shonn Greene.
That's inane. The only reason we had two FBs on the roster was because we had a young rookie who wasn't ready to start. We'll roll with Conner next year when TRich retires. We'll still have 4 active RBs each week, but only one will be a FB.
I'd like to see him back. He is a leader, and a class act. He can still contribute in many ways besides just as a back. I do agree that it should be Greene's team at this point, but would still like to see LT here as part of a 3 back attack. That would be excellent.
I understand it might be frustrating for LT, but he really needs to be patient. I am sure the organization would love to have him back for the last year, but I think Tanny needs to hold all his cards close to the vest. Plus, sometimes things will end up going in a direction no one expected. Its a long time till training camp comes again. A lot can happen. I think he should start behind Greene, but someone might want to explain that to Schott.
The Jets will be losing Richardson, a key character guy for the locker room. Everything LT said and did, proves he is a key character guy. I believe the Jets should hold onto him.
I don't trust Greene to be healthy for an entire season. And I don't trust McKnight against good teams. My favorite thing about LT on the team is his passion and leadership. I am all for keeping him. He also needs to be patient and wait for the new CBA before Tanny can make these decisions. Increase of games may allow and increase of roster size.
I would love to have LT back just because he's another weapon that will strike fear into the other teams.
I don't think there's a comparable FA out there that we know for sure can do what LT can do. I'd be more than happy to commit to him for another year as part of a 3-headed backfield.
After thinking about it since the season ended I think i've changed my mind about LT. I think as a 3rd down back LT can be productive for us,due to his solid recieving skills. That along with his leadership can really help us. My only fear is his presence hampering McKnights ability to get enough in game reps thereby setting him back a year.
