Couldn't decide which was better, so I thought I'd double up the title. This thread is to drop some negativity on players that you think are getting hyped up for little or no reason. The great part about this thread on this site is that I've seen more insane hype here than any other MB I've ever seen. For example, I'm sure that there will be someone that takes Brooks Reed top ten in the mock this weekend.

So, fire away with some hate. If you want to defend a guy that someone else defended, feel free, but you may then encounter the brunt of that misery.

I'll go ahead and start off:

Jake Locker: He's not very good. I would be really excited to get him in Rd 3, indifferent in Rd 2, and PISSED in Round 1 if I were a fan of whatever team takes him. He's got decent tools and mechanics, but I've never seen him do anything that makes me want him as a quarterback. There are guys like Derek Anderson who also had tools and no head but never had the hype Locker did, and look where it got him. Locker's good enough to play some good games, maybe put a season or two together, but he's not a franchise guy I'd put first round trust in.

Christian Ponder: He's worse. No idea where the love for this guy comes from. Sure, he's accurate, smart, athletic, and a good leader, but he doesn't have the arm to be a starter. He's the type I'd love as a backup to work on the scout team, help out my starter in practice, and occasionally handle game time, but not the main guy.

Von Miller: He's not a top 5, top 10, or even top 20 guy. He can rush, great, but he's likely too small in build to excel as an everydown 34 OLB, and I can't imagine him ever converting to a 43 defense. People will say that Derrick Thomas was the same size and thrived (I did last year when he was a monster), but after seeing him struggle through a good part of this year I'm a lot less confident.

    Hate on.

This is interesting. I didn't follow college football much this ear (thanks alot Gators!), but with what I've been hearing the last 2 or 3 days I thought he was someone to look out for.

I always find it interesting that every year people allow Senior Bowl workouts, combine and pro day workouts to elevate someone above what the tape shows they did in their college careers (Gholston). Why is that? Are you, Mr. E, WW, etc. anti-combine/senior bowl practice/pro day workouts?

PS- Sorry to fuck up your thread on the first post and go off topic, but you just made me think with that post and I was wondering what you cats who know better than I do feel.

No, absolutely not. I think that they serve a purpose because it lets people who know what they're doing see everyone on an even playing field. Every player's getting the same instruction during these things, so people see a lot that they might have never seen before. Plus, it's all open to the media/scouts, so a lot of things are uncovered.

My issue with Von Miller is that I'm not sure I buy what people are hyping. I think that it's more of just a buzz and not actually based on anything special. Everything I hear is that he's doing well in passrush drills, but not doing much else. The guys at sidelinescouting are saying he's routinely skipping the LB stuff to stick with the ends. That's not his future position, unless he wants to be a pass rush specialist. Guys like Acho and Kerrigan are working with both to showcase all of their skills, that's what will boost their stock.

I agree with Miller, I didnt realize until recently how he isnt much more than a pass rusher and cant/does not want to play in coverage.

One thing about Kerrigan, I have not heard anything about how he has looked at linebacker as far as coverage goes, any update on that. He apparently has looked good in pass rushing. Also he, unlike Miller, Kerrigan showed up at linebacker size (255) so I think Kerrigan knows his value as a linebacker

Marvin Austin.......a huge disappointment, what a waste. Let's see if his year off lights a fire and he becomes a solid NFL player.

Adrian Clayborn from Iowa. I watched a bunch of Iowa games and he starts out fast, but by the end of the game, when he needs to show up for his team, he always looks out of gas and doesnt seem to rise when the team needs him the most.

I dont have stats to prove this but from watching him, I dont think this guy will be that great in the NFL

Mark Ingram will NOT be emmit Smith, emmit Smith lite, or anything close to emmit Smith.

I think the Smith comparison is accurate body and playing style wise. I don't think they mean Ingram will have an Emmitt Smith, HOF career when they make the comparison.

And I'd have to say Ryan Mallett.

He has all the physical skills, but like Robo QB and Ryan Leaf, you need more than that. Mentally fragile, can't have that at the QB position...

Yeah Ryan Mallet was gonna be the guy I post. I don't know much about college football but I just have a feeling this guy is gonna be an udda disasta in the NFL

I wonder if you put him in a Rodgers situation... ergo sit him for 3 years behind a starter...

Rodgers is incredibly accurate and always was.

Mallett has a big arm, but he misses on a lot of passes. I'm not saying that can't be corrected, but he doesn't seem like a "coachable" player. That's one of the biggest knocks someone can give a prospect.

Cam Newton has and will continue to be a fun player to watch but I don't think he'll be very good in the NFL. Might wind up being an option threat like Brad Smith.

For once, I'm not actually trying to insult you, but this is dumbest thing written in the draft forum in quite some time.

That's fine, I just don't think he'll be a starting quarterback (for long) in the NFL. When I said Brad Smith it doesn't mean he'll get 5 touches a game plus ST duty but something akin to what Tebow had done in Denver. Goal line and short yardage in a spread offense with Newton at the helm. Obviously he'll get drafted to be a franchise QB, you don't take a guy in the first or second to do what I'm talking about regarding Tebow and Smith. I just feel he won't be worth his draft stock and will take on a hybrid QB role.
