Couldnt help myself, had to watch the second half again. I may feel even worse now. We easily could have won that game the way we played after halftime. The most bothersome thing upon 2nd viewing was the way we used Shonn Greene. The guy is running like a man possessed on the drive where we get stuffed at the goalline. At the end of every run he is blasting a defender, and then getting up and showing how fired up he is. He was dominant on the drive. Then we get 1st and goal at the 2, and he gets the 1st down carry, makes it 2nd and g at the 1. Then thats it. I dont even think he touches the ball again. Not only on the next 3 plays, but on the next drive after they get the safety, he doesnt touch it. Personally, I wouldnt have run at all on that drive, Sanchez was hot, and the clock was an issue. But if I was going to run, I would have given to the guy who was clearly playing better. They wasted alot of time on handoffs to LT. which obviously cost us. It really was shocking to watch how they went away from the hot hand, it was a big mistake.
More like bad news. But it shows exactly the disconnect that Schotty has...Greene was running like a mad man. Everyone...and I mean everyone, is questioning those goal line plays. I've yet to hear anyone defend them. Schotty sux.
Why would you do that to yourself? I still haven't turned on ESPN in fear I might see a highlight. I saw the replay was on NFL network tonight, I just about canceled my cable!
I too went back and watched the 2nd half 1st. The Jets get the ball first. We look good, coming out of the locker room and scoring on the opening drive. Wow! This is gonna be easy. We miss a scoring opportunity, but there's plenty of football left. We get a safety, which causes Rex great joy. Inspired by his enthusiasm, we methodically move down and get a touchdown after the free kick. The defense is playing great and totally shuts down the Steelers offense, but Big Ben did get loose on a few scrambles. No worries, our top rated defense bends but doesn't break. We have them so frustrated they decide to close out the half by taking three straight kneel-downs...they don't want a turnover I guess. We scored 16 unanswered points in the half. Things are looking good. Then I watched the 1st half 2nd. The Steelers come out of the locker room and decide to predominately run the ball. It's working...they're gashing us for long chunks of yardage, but they are acting like the clock is not a factor. We barely get the ball in this half, and we only manage a late field goal. I hope it's enough. Thank God for Nick Folk. I just don't understand how we lost. Oh well. Next I'm going to watch the 2nd quarter first and then the 4th quarter, followed by the 3rd and then the 1st quarter. If that doesn't work, I'm going to watch the Jets/Patriot game from two weeks ago. That one always turns out great.
On that 4th down play on the goal line.......I wonder why LT didnt do his usual jumping over the LOS and extend the football. The guy ran right into a wall. Any1 else notice this? I think he coulda scored if he jumped like the usual LT.
I would prefer chinese water torture than to ever see a play from that game again. You're a sick person.
wtf LT was doing there when Greene was ripping through the Steelers has been brought up so many times. Only explanation I have is that Schotty/Rex look at LT and think they've got LT in his MVP years & not recognizing the LT they currently have on the roster. But even that excuse sounds stupid. Rex/Schotty really messed that up.
To be fair he got 23 of those yards on one carry so he averaged 3.6 YPC on his other 8 carries. Not bad against this D but not as good as 5.8 sounds.
I agree BUT falling down 24-0 means the running game almost has to be thrown out. The D allowed Pitt to control the clock throughout the first half so we couldn't get into a rythm. It's not like LT had 20 carries and Greene 9, they each only had 9 carries.
But once we got it to 24-10 with more than twelve minutes left in the third quarter, we could have used Greene more.
It was magnified in that goal line stance but all year I was mad about them not using LT correctly. Greene needed to be the feature back and LT was there to compliment him. I'll never understand why Rex didn't get on Schotty for this. LT was not supposed to be the Thomas Jones replacement that's Greene's job. I hate to say this but that falls on the head coach, stop worrying so much about your defense sometimes and be a head coach.
Bottom line was that even though we controlled Big Ben all game outside of the scrambles he was Big Ben when he had to be. That last play was great. Three guys in his grill and he put it right on the money. Yeah, we were good at the end of games this year but he's done that his whole career and that's the reason he has won two Super Bowls and is in a third. Fans at the game were good people but dicks as fans. Annoying as fuck before and during, nice afterwards.
A year ago Jones had 331 carries compared to 108 for Greene, this year LT had 219 and Greene 185 so they almost split carries. I agree Greene needed mroe touches but LT was excellent against both Indy and NE and he didn't have a crazy amount of carries against Pitt. if he got 20-25 and Greene had 10 I'd be going nuts but both guys had 9 carries.
Every Jet fan in the world was wondering why Greene was not in on the GL. Some say LT is our GL guy, which he has been but the way Greene was running he had to be the guy. We needed a power runner against that defense. It may not have been personal for us be we rushed the ball on them like no other team all year so it was very personal for their defense.
I understand, Greene has worked his way into the offense much more. I think what I mean by that is LT is not a physical back like Thomas Jones was and Greene is. LT needed to be used on the edges and on screens while Greene should've been the guy running up the middle all year. LT did more than I expected he would do this year and I hope he's back next year. I just hope they realize Shonn Greene needs to be the starting back next year.
