Last year Ryan put together a team in the offseason that was geared towards beating the Colts. He ended up putting a team together that could beat the Pats too. After seeing the success of beating both teams in the playoffs, I'm apt to say we need to go after players who can now beat the Steelers. What I like about focusing on individual teams is that its a concrete way focus our energies to get better. Certainly the Colts, Pats, and now the Steelers are on are radar because they are and will be the teams we need to beat to rise to the top. How do we do it? Well a fast OLB is a given. We need a guy to be able to get into the backfield quickly to at least slow down the runningback or make him think so guys like Harris and Scott can get to a guy like Mendenhall. Additionally, this OLB needs to be able to spy the QB on 3rd downs so Big Ben doesn't get past him. We need to make sure Sanchez gets more work in with screen plays so LT and hopefully, McKnight could run around the hard blitz of the Steelers. We also need a Becht type player for those max protect plays so we don't have to rely so much on the backs picking up all the work (I don't think we have as good pass blocking RBs since TJ left). These are just some examples from the game I saw, what else could we do you guys think we need to beat the Steelers?
you realize if the defense did not miss 10+ tackles on the first drive they wouldnt of gotten so shot, and tired so fast right? we lost the game, because our best tacklers couldnt stop Mendenhall. He is a pretty good runningback, but we have shut down alot better. The front 7 choked.
yeah the part where we need to find guys that give scott and harris a chance to tackle mendenhall is false. We had plenty of chances to drag him down in the backfield, and failed miserably.
Way too many arm tackling going on. I think our LBs weren't playing home because they were going all out to get the LOS. I think if they could depend more on a guy who will slow Mendenhall down first, it would help them stay in position.
I'm not gonna dig it up but Br4dw&ySucks or w/e his username is said something like "the Jets put a lot of emphasis fixing their pass defense...hopefully it doesn't backfire and they end up losing to the Steelers and their power running game". Unfortunately he called it.
The Jets do not need to gear their team towards beating the Steelers. The Jets will not play the Steelers in the regular season and there's no guarantee the teams will meet in the playoffs.
Yeah this offseason fix is gonna be less about finding guys to beat the steelers, and more about getting a roster that isnt old enough to collect social security
