Agree 100%, that has been his problem all year. Ball awareness. He's great in coverage but needs to learn how to cover and track the ball at the same time. Hopefully having a camp with Revis this time around will help a ton.
Source: Ex-coach Eric Mangini pushed New York Jets to draft disappointing linebacker Get your facts straight, it is very well documented. Google is your friend. "Here's the troubling part: Gholston's lack of progress isn't surprising to some in the organization. Now we're hearing he wasn't a popular choice to begin with. Opinions in the draft room were mixed on Gholston, but the Jets picked him because then-coach Eric Mangini lobbied hard, according to multiple sources. "That one's on Eric," one source said. Now they have a potential bust on their hands. Asked if Mangini was the driving force behind the Gholston choice, GM Mike Tannenbaum said, "On all draft decisions, I have the final say. But, organizationally, we felt good about Vernon. Although his rate of improvement isn't where we want it to be, we're still happy he's here and we feel good about his future." Sounds like spin control. Since starting the first four games at outside linebacker for the then-suspended Calvin Pace, Gholston has been used sparingly in sub packages as a down lineman. His best moment was a hustle play in Week 3, when he made a touchdown-saving tackle on the Titans' Chris Johnson 30 yards downfield. What did the Jets, or Mangini, see in Gholston? They were seduced by extraordinary measurables - size, speed and strength. "He had two sacks against (Michigan's) Jake Long in college and that drew a lot of attention," an AFC scout said last week, referring to the Dolphins' No. 1 overall pick in 2008. "But when you went back and watched his tapes, he wasn't nearly as productive as he was in that one game. When people saw his body type and raw numbers, I guess they were willing to overlook what they actually saw on tape." Jeez can we stop with Gholston? Who cares who made the pick? It was a bad pick, Tannenbaum has drafted as well as anyone else has in the past 5 years. I believe that Kyle and Vlad will be starting next year.
Kyle will be good next year From what I saw he was good in limited opportunities he had after the 1st month He just couldn't turn his head in time vs Boldin in WK1, it's his 1st Pro game and huge step in class from the WAC. Hopefully he has a few film studies with Revis in the Offseason (Maybe thats wishful thinking on my part)
A Pats fan here. I've actually been one of the few to stick up for Sanchez on our board. He deifinetly has the skills to put it all together. And he seems like a good kid too.
Wilson did indeed have an impact and was on the field last nite----------Rothlisberger hit him rite in the facemask with what should have been an easy INT ----I know this kid got jerked around early in camp and the season but he looked lost returning kicks also---and the pass last nite that drilled him in his grill was UGLY
At least he was able to still keep his head in the game.. Get it? Head, because the ball drilled him in it.
Do people even read the thread before posting? That was hardly an easy or gimme INT that hit him in the facemask.
It wasn't an easy or gimme INT because there was no INT to be made. At least not by him. Maybe a defender near by picks it up off the tip.
People here are terrible. How can you rip on a rookie CB who hardly got any playing time? People expect Darrelle Revis from every CB who plays on this team now. Wilson will be very good, he needs time to develop. If he was put into the fire from day one and was CB #2, he would have probably been much better by now.
