The Empire State Building has joined Gang Green. The New York icon was decked out in Jet colors yesterday as the city got ready for the squad to face off against the New England Patriots in tomorrow's AFC playoff matchup. Jet safety Jim Leonhard was on hand, and had the honor of flipping the switch in a 2 p.m. ceremony at the building. The privilege served as a good-luck charm for tomorrow's 4:30 p.m. game between Gang Green and the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Leonhard, who's out with a broken leg, said he was excited for the game. GLOW, FIGHT, WIN! The Empire State Building glows Jet colors yesterday as Patriot QB Tom Brady arrives at the New England locker room. "I wish I was out there with the guys, but we're finishing up a great week of preparation right now and I'm doing my part here in New York City at the Empire State Building," he said. "So we got the whole city of New York behind us. Go Jets!" The Empire State Building will remain Gang Green and white tonight and Sunday night, since New Yorkers are counting on Rex Ryan and Co. to come home winners. While the goldilocked Patriot quarterback Tom Brady prepared for the game yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg jumped into the football fray, declaring "The Jets are going to the Super Bowl. You heard it from me." "I don't want to jinx 'em," he said, adding that he likes Coach Ryan's big mouth. "It was interesting, an article in the paper about Rex Ryan. He's all this stuff. He's out there cheering, 'We're going to beat this guy,' 'This is my target,' whatever. That builds the brand, and it builds the Jets as an economic value to the city." The mayor also said New York taxpayers should be grateful. "All this stuff is good. Sports, even if you don't like it, your livelihood depends on it, your tax rates depend on it," he said. "We want New York teams to be successful."
That's just awesome. I have to stay out one night (in this damn cold) and appreciate this first hand.
