I couldn't disagree more. Absolutely everyone thought that the Jets defense couldn't possibly stop the Pats offense, and they thoroughly dominated them. Everyone thought that Belichick would make some magical adjustments at halftime, and it never happened. A second year QB made the defensive genius look totally ineffective.

Not only was Belichick outcoached in this game, he was outcoached in their last 2 postseason games also.

Rex still showing humility in praising BB. Not sure why. He clearly outcoached him.

No point in playing mind games with somebody who has already been beaten. Rex is like Phil Jackson, he's not a blundering idiot like the media portrays him, he says everything for a reason.

Wondering how the media will spin this press conference.

"After out-coaching Belichick in Foxboro, Ryan makes blatant lies at podium and says NE coach was superior."

 Yeah, that was odd how he said that.

Rex's big thing: Me vs. Belichick.

He wins that, then after games says "Glad I was wrong. Bill beat me, but my players won the game."

Then today says he didn't outcoach BB, when he did. I don't get it. But i'll take it.

How do you not get what Rex is doing? He's giving all of the credit to his players. It's an incredibly smart move.

He's also giving respect to one of the best coaches ever. Everyone knows Ryan got the best of Belichick and the Patriots - he doesn't have to brag about it.

Rex said that because he wanted the players to get the credit, not him. If they lost, he would have said it was all his fault and not the players to protect them. That's a big reason his players love him.

As has been pointed out, Rex is a genius when it comes to mental mind games.........there's no benefit to him or his players to claim he outcoached BB. Let him players get the praise, build them up as much as possible.

He knows he out coached Bill.......he doesn't need anyone else to acknowledge it.

There is when they play in your division. This won't be the last time they face each other, unless Rex beat him into retirement yesterday.

Rex said he was outcoached in the 2nd Pats game and it was his fault, so this takes the heat off the players. This week he said the game will come down to coaching, however, he doesn't want to take all the credit for the win.

I like how he said he was outcoached and is giving all the credit of the victory to his team.

    Unbelieveable is more like it:

Rex Ryan told two stories in yesterday's press conference that demonstrate the respect he has for Mike Tomlin, and why the Jets are dialing down the rhetoric for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Both stories came from a 2007 game between the Ravens and Steelers, when Ryan was defensive coordinator for Baltimore. Pittsburgh led 35-7 at halftime, but instead of running the score up further, Ryan says they ran the ball on nearly every play in the second half. (The final score was 38-7.)

Later in that same game, a fullback on the sidelines was taunting Jets linebacker Bart Scott, who dared the fullback to come back into the game. Tomlin, who overheard the jawing, sent the fullback on the field and called an isolation playing require him to block Scott one-on-one. According to Ryan, Scott separated the fullback's shoulder on the play.

Great story, but did it really happen?

Well, the Steelers had two fullbacks in 2007. One was veteran Dan Kreider and the other was Carey Davis. A quick search for either of their names, plus "separated shoulder" turns up no relevant hits.

Kreider played limited minutes that year, until suffering a season-ending ACL injury against Miami, two weeks after the Baltimore game.

Davis played every game that season and not only does he not appear to have been injured against the Ravens, he carried the ball three times on Pittsburgh's final drive. Perhaps Tomlin did give him the ball in response to the trash talking, but Scott did not injure him.

Oh, and Steelers continued to throw the ball well into the fourth quarter, even after Ben Roethlisberger was injured and turned the game over to Charlie Batch.

We're not saying Ryan's a liar. Memory is a fuzzy thing and there's no reason to doubt that he and Tomlin do have tremendous respect for each other. But like all war stories, this one appears to have been embellished for effect.
