What makes a team relevant if not winning? I'm pretty sure that in any competitive sport you compete for the championship at the end of the season. And unless you are consistently in contention then you aren't exactly relevant. Where am I wrong?
If you call the Jets irrelevant, then they are in the same boat as the Fins and Bills. Since that's pretty much impossible to do, the Jets aren't irrelevant. They've been relevant for the past decade. Playoff appearances and winning seasons do that for you. Irrelevance is a term used for teams that are never thought of post-December.

Strong post Mick. It's funny though, first he stated how the Jets haven't been relevant since 68-69, followed by saying you have to at least be a contender to be considered relevant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Jets were serious contenders under Parcells back in 1998 where we made it to the AFC Championship game. Same goes for last year, where we made it back to the AFC Championship game. If we aren't considered contenders this year...I'm not sure which team is. You will have one team after this weekend ends that is viable for a championship{Yankees}....... Boston has three. Even the Bruins posses a better shot than any of your NHL teams. The Patriots are young in most positions with draft picks in abundance. They're not going anywhere.

They lost the first round draft pick because they cheated by using their own camera man to tape opposing coaches signals from the sideline on the first year that it was made illegal by the NFL commissioner and they were penalized heavily for it. Exactly. Strong post MadBacker. It's no secret how NE went 10-0 during the playoffs, & "won" 3 *SB's*. It's because they knew what opposing D's were running before every snap of the ball. It's also obvious why NE has only played 50% during the playoffs, & have lost two playoff games in a row. It's much harder to win in the playoffs, when you can no longer cheat; by knowing which play the opposing D is about to run. The Pats are 0-1 at home during the playoffs since Rex became a Jet last year. The Jets have a road playoff record of 3-1 under Rex since last year. Brady & the *Pats* time is ticking (tick...tock). The Jets era of winning football under Rex Ryan has just begun. As long as Rex is a Jet (which could be for 10+ years); we'll be loaded with elite talent.
