I wasn't alive yet. Always assumed that Namath won the game with high powered O (based on the Garauntee and the lore). Reading the Wiki, looks like the Super Bowl 3 Colts were more like the Jets of 2010: "Jets coaching staff and offensive players noted that their offense was particularly suited against the Colts defense. The Colts defensive schemes relied on frequent blitzing, which covered up weak points in pass coverage. The Jets had an automatic contingency for such blitzes by short passing to uncovered tight ends or backs."
That is exactly what I expected your reply to be. As for the game it was really a very simple answer not actually addressed by Wiki. JWN quick release was far superior then the Colts Dline so the Colts pass rush was quickly & totally neutralized. Some luck was involved also when the Colts ran a flea flicker at the end of the 1st half & the Colt QB did not see a wide open receiver waiting in the EZ for the QB to chuck him the ball. In the 2nd half our D totally took over the game & controlled the LOS which allowed JWN to NOT throw a pass in the 4th qtr :jets:
I get it. We weren't huge underdogs, St. Louis wasn't an offensive powerhouse, and we didn't win with defense. So it meets none of the qualifications you mentioned when you started your thread.
Good call on the 1999 Falcons vs Vikings. I don't know where the Seahawks beating the Saints will rank but I enjoyed the hell out of that game.
