Revis is quickly on his way to becoming not just one of the best, but the greatest shut down corner of all time. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before. Sanders was an amazing lock down corner, one of the greatest ever, but Sanders was also hyped up by the media. #21 was also known for his famous high-steps into the endzone, Michael Jackson types of celebration dances, flashy nick names such as Neon-Deion and Prime Time, and to top it off, other than maybe Hester as of now, Sanders was known as the greatest kick returner/punt returner of all time. Darrelle Revis? The only thing he's been known for is completely eliminating opposing #1 WR's. Will #24 ever win the award? Yes, I believe he will, but in my heart; he's already won the award. We all had a chance to witness something special in the making last year. The ways he shut down great WR's such as A.Johnson, Moss (2x), Owens (2x), Wayne (2x), Ocho (2x), Colston, R.White & S.Smith was second to none...
He's a great corner, but let's not start knocking THE greatest corner of all time to try and prop Revis up. Revis has the potential be as good or possibly even better but I'm not ready to make that leap just yet. Let's see him play a few full seasons first. Deion had outstanding coverage skills, the ability to bait QB's into bad throws and the ability to turn INT's into huge returns. The only category Revis is currently better is tackling IMO. The first thing I'd like to see Revis improve is in the baiting category. His coverage is great, he needs to trust his skill enough to be able to leave a little separation with the WR baiting the QB into a throw he can jump and turn into an INT.
Good points. The ability to bait qb/wr is one thing that really separated Dion from everyone else. One of the best plays I've seen was Dion (as a Falcon) running w/ Rice and slowing down so it looks like Rice is open. As soon as Montana tried to take advantage Dion turned on his speed to catch up & made the interception. Dion was extremely dangerous because he would purposely create this situations where you think the WR is open so that he can jump in and make an interception. Revis does tackles better than Dion but Dion was not a great tackler. There's plenty of CB that tackle better. Right now Revis is the best CB in the league but I'd like to see him do it for a few more seasons before comparing him to Dion or calling him the best ever. === If Dion was covering Wayne, Manning would've thrown more than one pass in that direction & Dion would've had a good break for an int on most of them. Not a knock on Revis because Revis is outstanding and is the current best CB in the league right now.
