The problem was that in that situation there was no possible way for the Colts to get the ball back so calling a timeout with :29 seconds just doesn't make any sense.

first off, Caldwell didn't call the timeout, Peyton did. Manning hasn't given Caldwell permission to call time outs yets.

Caldwell press conference: did any reporter ask him why he called to TO?

I watched the clip posted on nfl.com/videos of the Colts post-game press conference, it included only about a minute of Caldwell talking, but wasn't the entire session. I'm thinking there MUST have been someone who asked him why he called that timeout? (I'd also like to see someone ask Manning what he thinks of Caldwell calling that TO, on TV we could clearly see Manning go apeshit when he saw his own coach called the TO, but Manning is a polite enough person I don't think he'll ever take a shot at his own coach or teammate, even if he does believe they're an idiot)

You can't really argue that the TO was worth it to try and save time to get the ball back. The Jets were clearly in position to run the clock down for a 50 yard FG, + that TO is valuable to use in trying to ice the kicker. Not that I even like that its allowed, the whole concept of icing the kicker with a TO... however I'd love to see Folk miss the FG, but get another chance because of a TO, and then make it!

Except for when he would do that routinely every season after choking in the playoffs. Other than those times, he never did it.

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here. Let's just say we had some problems in protection.''

oooohh. Had a hard time getting over that one. Let's not mention the fact he was sacked like 11 times the WHOLE season and that the Polamalu call was an absolute travesty.

He once said in a post game conference in tune of:

"I am trying to be a good teammate here, OK? Let's just say the protection wasn't very good today."

I have grown a healthy dislike for that man on that instance.

This timeout call was one of the most inexplicably horrendous calls I have ever seen. Sure you guys might have still made the 50+ yard field goal but there is absolutely nothing positive for the Colts that could come from calling a timeout there. I just got home from the game and it looked like you guys were content to run the clock down and kick the long one.

I didn't think challenging the Santonio PR was a bad move, because it did come so close to hitting him and it would have been huge if the Colts had gotten the ball back in that spot, but there's really nothing to defend the TO at the end of the game. Made no sense.

Why people have problems when others speak their mind is beyond me.

They had problems with protection that game and he stated the obvious. Boo hoo get over it. How can you lose respect for someone that doesn't hide behind BS?

It's called being responsible as a leader of your team. You take the heat whether it's deserving or not. If you have a problem with how your offensive line is doing, talk to them in private...don't bash them in the media.
