1 on 1 coverage with Braylon against a JAG cornerback is pretty high percentage. The Colts probably had the middle of the field covered very well. I have no problem with it.
That call SUCKED! yes, he was open (somewwhat) and a completion could've iced the game, but why call such a low percentage play when Sanchez was clearly off target tonight. The end result was great, no thanks to that play. :shit:
thank you. Better throw, and this thread doesn't exist. God forbid we try to Win the damn game. Had no problem with the call.
Dumbest call in history. 5 yards wins the effin' game. Call a high pecentage pass there ... not some low percentage prayer. Schotty was a dumbass, but the team bailed his ass out.
5 yds..you probably run the clock out & win the game..even if he catches it & we score a TD we are up by 8 w/ 2 mins left
In a VACUUM I don't mind the call... Taking a shot to win the game, having some balls, etc. BUT... Considering Sanchez could not hit the broad side of a barn for most of the evening.. HORRIBLE call.
Why I agree with you (and I have said so in multiple posts), there was a point made if favor of the call. This was by the 1050 guys that are on now (it sounds like Buttle). While the bomb is a lower percentage play for completion it's actually it's also a much less likely play to be intercepted (vs. a potential tipped ball on a short quick pass). While I still don't like the call, at least that's a positive reason for making that play selection.
Agreed. I can't crucify Schottenheimer for the call when it worked perfectly--Sanchez just blew the throw. Additionally, I find it ironic that many of the same fans who never forgave Herm Edwards for going conservative against Pittsburgh in the Doug Brien game are now criticizing Schotty for making an aggressive call late in a playoff battle.
(1) Acceptable if it's OVER the middle where you have a much better chance of getting the guy open. (2) I wouldn't call that play down the sidelines even if my QB was Brady or Manning. It's just TOO tough a throw UNLESS you have to go there, like Sanchez and Braylon did against Texas because you knew they had taken away the middle. (3) If the play is on 3rd down and it's a 50-yard bomb, even an INT is like a long punt (assuming your WR tackles the guy).
It was a bad call because all we needed was 5 yds for a first down. Apparently that was not Schotty's call, I heard that Sanchez audibled for the long pass play. It was not a very smart call imho. A 6 yd slant pass would have gotten the 1st down and been easier to complete.
If we lost the game, I am pretty certain Shotty would be fired tomorrow morning for that play call alone. But we live to play another week so hopefully these things do not happen again.
I think the call that they let Sanchez go with was the pass to Braylon that set up the field goal, but I could of misinterpreted.
The Colts had 9 in the box and the Jets went max-protect. Edwards was 1-1 with a JAG corner. It was a high percentage play. Mark had a piss poor pass. A slant would not have developed because of the maxt protect and 9 men up front. It had to be 15 - 20+ yard pass. I like the aggresiveness and I am not mad about it. However, I would have probably preferred they tried that on 2nd down. Then again, they didn't have 9 up front on 2nd down so its Catch 22.
