Taking on the Colts it appears obvious that we need to establish the run. But how exactly should we design our running game? Should S Greene get 60/ 70% of the carries? Should we try to wear the Colts down and call many inside runs or are we more succesfull on outside runs? I hope Shottenheimer is brave evough to give Greene most of the carries and limit LT's touches - maybe giving him some touches as a checkdown option or on a suprise pass play!!! Whether running between the tackles or outside is more promising Im not really sure - the Colts having a smallish/ speedy D suggests inside runs but throughout the year Ifelt we were more succesful on outside runs. Yet, Im very unsure of what to expect from Shotty and the JETS and would be interested to hear what you guys expect...
The best way to beat speed in football is to run right at it. You aren't going to beat these LB'rs/DE's to the outside consistently unless they're selling out to stop the inside runs - which they may very well do. I'd start by going at them inside and if they start to over sell on the inside run hit them with some counter action to the outside.
I think LT is gonna start, get the first series.. and then we'll see Greene every 2 out of 3 series I think, with LT in 3rd down and passing situations. Ideally I think they'd like to see Greene get 20 carries and LT about 10 with a few catches.
I want Shonn Greene handling more carries than not. LT has had a couple weeks to freshen up so he might be effective, but i want to see SG pounding that rock up the middle.
just read the colts have a hard time defending both the run and pass, and they tend to sell out to stop one or the other. this will be a chess match i can see sanchez given two plays, one run, one pass. sanchez will make the call when he is behind center and he sees how the colts are lined up.
I dont think we need to do anything special or out of the ordinary, just play our game. No reason to think our OL can't handle their defensive fronts. Greene is deceivingly fast, he can bounce runs outside as well as drive the shoulder through. I think well see a balanced amount of inside/outside runs and you know well see some Brad Smith wildcat, too.
Shonn has to get the majority of the carries, he should be the featured back, and LT should get less carries but be used for passes out of the backfield. They could do a number on the Colts if they execute.
This is so counter to what many here over the course of the season have said the Jets should go about scheming their O, but the nature of one's opponent is, should be, a factor. That being the case, MS hopefully will be up to the task, and the Jets will at least have in place the ability to take that approach. Try it, see if it works.
The Colts are going to do what they have been doing the last 3 weeks. Load up the box to stop the run and make Sanchez try to beat them. Everyone knows the Jets want to run. With that being said, if I were a Jets fan, I would go with more Greene than Tomlinson. LT has never really had good games against the Colts. His styles just isn't conducive to big games against a quick defense like Indianapolis especially on the carpet indoors.
Greene is more power than LT. LT seems quicker so I would say him outside.....and let Greene power through the middle.
I hope this is the case, they did that last year and Sanchez moved the ball consistently for the most part, but also made some bad throws. I think if Indy stacks the box this time around, we'll all get to see the progression from year 1 to 2 for MS.
Are they stacking the box and sticking with tampa 2 coverage? If that's the case we should see bombs away.
i firmly believe that shonne grenne between the tackles is the key to victory in this game. if they feature him over LT im pretty sure hell have 125+ yrds.
Want to see Greene do the majority of the running. Would like to see LT and even McKnight on some pitches, dump offs, and runs outside the tackles. Let Greene bruise them in the trenches where they're undersized.
The primary reason the Jets prefer to throw the ball, this year as compared to last year, is to control the pace of the game. Not to prevent MS from losing the game, which was significantly more the concern last year. I concede Indy will probably see how loading the box does early on. But they have game film of the Jets moving the ball through the air. They will not stick with 8 or 9 in the box, obviously, if the Jets start moving downfield with the pass. The Jets have more weapons at receiver, too. Preferring to run does not mean they can't pass. Indy's CS understands this, no doubt. I think they will employ their D accordingly.
Run over them with Greene, throw in a little LT to keep them off balance. Blow em the f off the ball, I still think the Colts are a finesse D
Split the carries with Tomlinson and Greene early, then more Greene late. Run Greene inside and Tomlinson gets the draws and screens.
