Posting this now, so we can re-visit after the Colts game without anybody accusing me of front-running or whatever.......unfortunately, I think we are starting 3 backups and that's why we never get any sustained pressure. Hope I'm wrong, I think we have an outside shot at winning, but I'm not hopeful. And it certainly ends the next week with Brady. Missing on DeWayne Robertson (#4) and Ghoulston (#6) really killed us...you can't have 2 busts in 6 years with defensive picks.
Thanks for your informative analysis....you want to disagree with my projection or draft opinions, do so, but don't showcase your 70-IQ for all of us to see.
Agreed....he always took 2 guys.....I think his abscence really hurt the effectiveness of the blitzes, too.
Our DL is very good against the run, but I'd blame the passrush woes on our OLBs if anybody. The DL could use another DE for the rotation but Pouha has been great at NT. Also, the Taylor-Ellis-Thomas-Pace DL in nickel/dime isn't getting it done. All of them are average passrushers at this point and we need to upgrade.
Can I try? Sione Pouha is one of most underrated players in the league right now. I don't see how so many NYJ fans are so unappreciative of what he's done for this team right now. We have absolutely no rotation at nose tackle without Jenkins. Pouha stepped the fuck up and anchored our run defense. I guarantee you that David Harris and Bart Scott appreciate what he's done for this defense. Mike DeVito is an over-achiever. He'll be a decent rotation player. In my opinion, he has no business starting in this league, but he can contribute as a role player. He's a done well against the run this year. Trevor Pryce and Shaun Ellis are past their primes. I don't know how some of you can expect so much out of them. They're on their last leg. These guys that you're complaining about can't be blamed for the lack of pass rush. Bryan Thomas, Jason Taylor, and Calvin Pace need to turn it on if we want to win in the playoffs. Before you start a god damn thread, be sure to know what you're talking about. It's not the defensive line's job to get pressure on the quarterback. You want people to look back on this? Are you kidding me?
d lineman in a 3-4 are never really pass rushers, there main job is to eat up blockers the problem in the pass rush department is that the linebackers arent very good especially outside taylor is old and has little burst left, thomas is decent in coverage but never was a true pass rusher and pace is playing hurt
I wouldn't be the one talking about a 70-IQ... It's not a 3-4 D-Line's job to create pressure, and it amazes me that after years in a 3-4 defense that some Jets fans still don't understand this.
honestly ive been so pleased with the job devito and puoha do that i would like to see the both them get more shots in those pass rushing situations instead of the taylor pace end formations. let puoha play the outside for a few snaps and see what happens i mean try anything at this point. We need to mix our entire scheme up
That was Jets backups vs Buffalo type off ass whipping that was just administered.... can the mods please sweep up the debris that this demolition just left behind?
"Stincks" is too harsh... but they have been sup-bar. That said the future doesn't look so bad. - Ellis really hasn't shined this year and Pryce is getting pretty old but one of the two might stick around for vet minimum and play just on third downs. - Pouha has been solid as a run stuffing NT and I read somewhere that over time the Jets want to start rotating DeVito at NT too. - Although I doubt we have any hidden gems (starters) I think there are some guys that will have a bright future as rotation guys on our roster. Between Pitoitua, Dixon, Gilbert, Kroul and possibly even Tevaseau at NT we'll find and develop our future back-ups. If we draft a stud 3-4DE we'll have: Stud 3/4DE + Ellis (or Pryce) rotating at one DE. Pouha + DeVito giving him a breather at NT. DeVito + two between Pitoitua, Dixon, Gilbert, Kroul (who I think can also play NT) rotating. That looks solid to me...
It's awesome that we've been playing a 3-4 for 4 full seasons now and some fans still don't understand the very basics of it. I swear we see this same thread at least twice a month.
