...not much of a backup plan. If he's hired, McDaniels will more than likely try to acquire Kyle Orton from Denver.
Just like Mangini, Josh McDaniels will do a great job of surrounding himself with the people who got him shit-canned from his previous place of employ. Indianapolis delenda est.
The lesson to take out of all of this is that if you videotape your opposition and get caught and reprehended, you will not only not burn bridges with the team but in fact you become a candidate to land their head coaching job in the near future. Amazing. 49ers want to hire the guy who tries to cheat against them(Or at least be somewhat responsible for it).....
If they hired Josh and gave a 2nd round pick for Orton I think that would make them instantly the best in their division...not saying much but still. They have a solid D that only needs minimal work and a great run game, plus good WRs...Orton and that system would make the team very good imo. I have a feeling McDaniels is just young and needs time but he'll be one hell of a coach eventually.
If I were a Niners fan that news would cause me to look elsewhere. Unfortunately, nearly every other California team is an abysmal mess. Norv Turner is back, and Tom Cable is gone. I guess now's as good a time as any to take your chances on the Jaguars or Bills, knowing one will probably be LA bound in the near future. -X-
I'll bet Denver is regretting letting go of Shanny. He atleast had them fighting for a playoff spot every year.
eh, they lost the division to SD in the final week of the season, thats called choking. He also had this strange fetish for undersized lineman which lead to his 31st ranked defense. Denver made the right choice letting Shanny go, they just hired the wrong guy.
