just curious, we all point to the draft to bolster our pass rush. question: over the last 5 years, has a team picking in the bottom of the draft, like we will be, ever gotten a phenom pass rusher? aren't these guys gone by the 10th selection in the first round?
Cromartie should and I believe will be resigned. Tanny is to smart to let him walk after giving up possibly a second rounder for one year of a player. Unless of course they win the Super Bowl. Then its worth it.
I've decided I'd rather sign Holmes, Braylon and TWO cheaper but solid CBs as opposed to Cromartie. If that's at all possible under the cap. Which it probably isn't.
BTW, I don't remember anyone really complaining about the trade clause when we picked him up earlier this year. See thread: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=54818
Do you really think that the new CBA will allow players with 5 full years of service to be a RFA? It's only happened once before and that was in 2010 to offset the uncapped year. No chance in hell that the players association would ever agree to that again. The only chance that the Jets possibly have of Holmes and Cromatie remaining RFA is if the owners lockout the players and then have some sort of agreement right before the season starts and no real free agency takes place until 2012. The rules used to be that you were a restricted free agent after 3 seasons and an unrestricted free agent after 4. Cromatie has played 5 seasons Harris has played 4 seasons Holmes has played 5 seasons Braylon has played 6 seasons Brad Smith has played 5 seasons Eric Smith has played 5 seasons No one knows what the new CBA will entail but I would be shocked if a player with 5 years of service is ever a restricted free agent again.
I know for a fact that harris, holmes, and cro, smith, and smith are all RFAs BE was an RFA this season and we gave him a 1st and 3rd round tender so he's making like 6 mil this season, but he is an URFA after this year
I'm saying that the owners will never surrender value without contract consideration. Just common sense. That means one of two things: 2010 RFA's remaining restricted OR special compensation rules for the 2010 RFA class. That's contract value that has to be reconciled one way or the other. I think it's extraordinarily unlikely that owners with bargained-for value would simply surrender it to a small class of the players association.
Cro came real cheap this year so you have to factor that into the compensation dealt to San Diego for him. He is an upper echelon corner who is playing for $550,000 this year.
I just don't see how it would work. I agree that a team like the Pats is not going to want Mankins to walk away for nothing, same with the Chargers and Vincent Jackson. But as we saw this off season, teams rarely want to sign restricted free agents since they have to give up picks and a lot of money. While the owners aren't going to want to give up something for nothing, the players association is going to do everything in it's power to get the 2010 free agency class the big contracts that they should have gotten last summer. I agree with you that the uncapped year and extended RFA to all players with less then 6 seasons last year is going to create some strange scenarios where teams like the Pats and Chargers do not want to lose top players for nothing. I just don't see what type of solution makes both sides happy. Vincent Jackson wants his long term contract. AJ Smith doesn't seem to interested in giving him a long term contract. Can they find a short term solution that makes both sides happy?
Four accrued seasons -- 2006 Draft Class Original draft pick compensation -- $1,176,000 2nd-round tender -- $1,759,000 1st-round tender -- $2,521,000 1st- and 3rd-round tender -- $3,168,000 What does this mean? well its simple it means we give up a 2nd rounder to cro and pay him 550k this season then assuming there is still an RFA amount in the new CBA (i don't see why not?) we can pay him 1.176 million next season as an RFA and if somebody else wants him we can match it or get a 1st round pick back. If not then we keep him at 1.176 mil for 1 more season meaning for a 2nd rounder we got a top flight CB for 2 years for less then 2 million total MT knows what he's doing. i expect alot of our RFAs this season to get hit with high tenders
The point is that besides the one year in 2010, restricted free agency has never existed for players with more then 4 years of service. for the 2010 season the owners agreed to an uncapped year with the provision that any player with less then 6 years of service would continue to be a restricted free agent. Before 2010 any player with 4 years of service was an unrestricted free agent. The uncapped year was a huge success for the owners mostly because of restricted free agency. The new CBA will most likely roll back restricted free agency to 3 or 4 years like it was prior to the one strange year. What will happen in 2011's free agency is anyone's guess but I would not assume that Holmes, Braylon or Cromartie will be restricted.
so because we have blow our 2nd rounders lately, theyre not important? Kind of warped thinking. Maybe if he hadnt blown our 2nd rounders for 10 years, we'd be 14-2? Maybe we would have won a superbolw last year?
Tannenbaum has only really missed on one 2nd rounder and that was Clemens. Without the other 2nd rounders we don't get played like Keller, Harris and Sanchez. His record for drafting given the lack of picks is very good, it drives me crazy that he keeps trading picks.
