    I couldn't imagine a more appropriate escalator.

We brought in Cromartie to help us beat Peyton Manning in the playoffs. If he helps us accomplish that, the compensation goes up. Makes perfect sense.

He's going to have five full seasons after this year. The players association is going to fight to have restricted free agency and then unrestricted free agency be as few years as possible. Last year was the first and only that 5 full seasons would make a player a restricted free agent. I doubt it ever happens again.

He's a former pro bowler who played well this year and made an impact in the secondary. He's going to play in the playoffs, and its goes to a 2nd if he wins, making his team a top 8 team. Those are 2nd round deals.

    Its fair.

That doesn't make it a good trade. If we beat The colts and then lose to the Pats and Cromatie signs with the Redskins are you really going to be giving up a 2nd round pick when most of the defense is old?

No. I'm sorry you don't give up 2nd round picks for one year rentals.

Most of the defense is old? 5 of them are considered "old" in the NFL.

The deal had nothing to do with the time left on the contract. It had to do with the caliber of the player.

    Move past the years remaining.

How viable is a tag and trade after the season ?

I mean getting a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Cromartie should be more than easy for us to do no ?

Also I find it kind of odd that the trade goes to a 2nd if we get to the divisional round, which is worse than we did last year.

I would think at the very least it wouldnt escalate unless we made it back to the divisional championship

Did anyone else offer a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him? When you trade for a player your trading for that player and for how much longer they are under contract.

Do you have any examples of players being traded for 2nd round picks and were only on that team for one season?

This is the ultimate example of why teams like the Pats, Colts, Steelers and Eagles compete every year, while the Jets give up 2nd round picks for one year rentals.

The defense is old. Bryan Thomas, Bart Scott, Pace, Ellis, Jenkins, Pouha, Jason Taylor, Pryce. Almost the entire front 7 is going to have to be rebuilt over the next 2 seasons. But we got one season out of Cromatie and made it to the divisional round.

Not that this is a great example or anything, but didnt the Raiders give up a 1st round pick for Seymour which was a 1 year ? (and they later chose to extend him I think), Mcnabb also was a 1 year rental for a 2nd round pick. Moss was a 3rd round pick for 1 year (turned out to be far less)

Obv those are all jokes of a franchise but still.

The Raiders are a joke and they had the ability to franchise Seymour. Seymour is also one of the top lineman in the NFL.

The Jets will have other free agents like Holmes, Edwards and Harris that they may have to use the franchise tag on.

Trading a 2nd round pick for Mcnabb was cleary a mistake. The Skins thought they were getting a franchise QB that at worst they could franchise. Instead they gave up a top 40 pick to a division rival and got a washed up QB. This is a perfect example of a horrible trade.

The issue with Cromatie is that the Jets had to pay Revis. Can you really pay both of them and have 20-25% of your cap invested at cornerback?

He was a restricted free agent and the Pats signed him to an offer sheet. The Dolphins decided to do a trade instead and the Pats added a 7th round pick.

What didn't I understand? You can't pay Revis and Cromatie and have Wilson as the third cornerback. Cromatie is probably here for one season unless he's willing to take less then then market value. Most likely Kyle Wilson will be the 2nd corner next year and the Jets may be out a 2nd round pick.

Regardless of the compensation, are you comfortable having Kyle Wilson as your #2 CB?
