I think this year we match up a lot better. We not only have Braylon Edwards as a deep threat against the lacking Colts defense but now we've added Holmes to the game. On Defense of course our run defense isn't as stellar as last year but I think the Colts offensive line isn't that good. We have Revis who may not have 20 INT's but no one throws at him anymore and Cromartie who played well except that One TD against the Bears. The whole game will be for Schotty to stay true to the Ground and Pound game to keep Manning off the field. Blair White and Tamme could be in for a big game though if the safeties and nickelbacks aren't play well. I'm curious though, how did Freeney and Mathis do against our O-Line last year in both games??
We match up better without a doubt. On offense we have more weapons than we did last year. Their o is missing two of its best players and their secondary is all banged up. They still have manning, which is always a cause for concern, but they are much easier to beat this year.
We matchup far, far better on both sides of the ball. We have more offense, they have less. We have more capable coverage players on Defense and their D seems ever weaker. I would also like to mention that last year, Scott was playing with one leg, Strickland went out, and Harris was real banged up. Then Greene got hurt on offense too and our running game stalled, putting the rock back in Peyton hands the entire 2nd half. This should play out much differently if our coaches learned anything from that game.
I think getting Big Wood back at RT will be a significant factor as I think he will substantially help matching up w/Mathis and help upgrade our run production. The colts don't have a great rush defense and hopefully the Jets will feature their running game for a positive matchup that can help them control the game. When the Colts D gives up more than 90-100 yds to a running back, they tend to lose. I would throw short passes and pound the ball while keeping superman on the sidelines as much as possible.
Its not so much us matching up better for them, as it is them matching up better for us. But the fact that we have Cromartie instead of Lito is a massive boost. Even though our pass rush is simply more aged now than it previously was. If Greene can stay healthy for a full game against them, theres no reason we shouldnt win. Though the biggest boost of all should be going into this game with more than 1 HB
The game plan offensively against the steelers and bears would be perfect against the colts. We can move the chains and control the ball with the short passing game and the ground game. If it worked against the steelers and bears d it should work against the colts. The main difference between this year and last is our passing game is much improved. Defensively even though we haven't been playing well I believe we stll match up better this yr. Remember sheppard was benched and Strickland was hurt last year so Coleman and lowery played huge roles. Now we have cromartie on garçon. Big improvement there and we don't have to worry about collie and Clark. White and tame are no slouches but there is a significant drop off there.
Totally agree. I would love to see the Jets come out throwing these short passes and keep on moving the chains. Hopefully we end up with at least one, maybe two 8 or 9 minute drives that end in touchdowns, not field goals. This week I would love to see the pass set up our run for later in the game and then pound the hell out of Greene against their small and quick front.

That's what I was going to post. If that offense was at full strength I'd be hoping that the Jets keep up with them all game and pray for a mistake by Manning.
If we play liked we did last year, this game will be a breeze. The Colts don't have the big play guys to form a comeback. I still think we can play bad and stay in this game, obviously thats the worst case scenario.
:drunk: Last year we were doing well until somebody "kicked" Greene (his quote, not mine) in the ribs when he was down. Once our running game disappeared, Payton was able to wear down our D and advance to the Superbowl. It's up to our O to control the clock and wear down their D. It's up to our D to prevent any quick strikes. Both teams are banged up. Lets see how this works out.
I think you are right. The Colts will play their cover 2 shell and give Sanchez the short to intermediate throws, he just needs to complete them for the Jets sake. Those short throws can eliminate Freeney and Mathis.
Something I posted elsewhere: Here we go again. Jets at Indy in a playoff matchup. First, some observations. The Colts run D has recently got very stingy, but they were scheming against the run, and it has been working. McFadden, MJD, C Johnson all pretty much shut down in recent weeks. For the most part, those are run oriented teams with QB's that are hardly pro bowlers. That sounds like the Jets too. It wasn't until old man Collins started to pass the ball that TN did anything against the Colts. Why run against a team that is scheming against the run and has a completely decimated defensive backfield? The Colts' rushing game is also somewhat rejuvinated, but agianst some fair to poor teams. Addai returns. No small contributor to that Colts' offense. The Jets run defense is far superior to those of the Colts' recent opponents. Addai is a mismatch because the Jets' LB's are not very good in coverage. With Jim Leonard done for the season, the Jets are weak in terms of safeties that can cover. The weakest link in the Jets D is the over the middle passing game. Blair White and Tamme. Can the Colts run on this defense? Probably not, at least not effectively, but screens and pass plays to RB's could work well. What the Jets Need to do: What they should NOT do is what the Colts' last three opponents tried to do. Run against 8 or even 9 in the box, or at least cheating up. What they should do is come out with short drops and passes over the middle behind the LB's. Once the safeties cheat up, go deep in one on one matchups of Holmes and Edwards against the Colts' CB's. Try to soften the run defense, get a lead by passing attacking the Colts' defense's biggest weakness. THEN go to the run and ball control. Use the pass to set up the run. Play fakes early. Find a way to make Tamme and White pay for going over the middle. Not illegal hits, but big ones. The Jets can likely rely on Cromartie on Garcon and Revis on Walker to prevent the big play down the sidelines. The Jets also need to find a pass rush that works against Manning, but that is frankly unlikey to happen. Addai could have a big game with short passes. The Jets LB's are good run stoppers, but not good in coverage. What he Colts need to do: Attack the middle of the Jets defense. Addai, Tamme and White over the middle. Attack the outside of the Jets defense with outlet passes and runs. The Jets' LB's are not fast, and have trouble with outside contain. Almost forget about Wayne and Garcon early. Use the short game first, look for home runs later. Don't get fooled into thinking they can run behind the tackles other than to keep the Jets defense honest. Get a lead, force the jets to throw and let loose the dogs, Mathis and Freeney. Load up against the run, which the Jets will likely stubbornly try to use right from the first drive with their ground and pound mentality. Force Sanchez to throw. This should result in some early 3 and outs when the Colts stop the run. By that time, Manning and the Colts have a lead, and they can begin to dictate the game. Summary: I think the Jets will not attack the Colts' weaknesses, and try to force the issue, sticking with trying to run against a defense that is ready to defend it. You can only keep the ball away from Manning if you are getting first downs. The Jets have to either have confidence in Sanchez to throw the ball early or lose. If the Jets cannot or refuse to attack a playoff team's most glaring weakeness or just stay home and mail it in. Manning will find ways to get the ball to Tamme and White. If the Jets don't make big hits on those completions over the middle, Manning will pick them apart with time consuming drives. It will be the Jets defense that gets tired, not the Colts. No more training wheels for Sanchez. If he can't throw against the Colts' DB's or the Jets stiuck with a run first play not to lose approach.... the game turns on this one aspect.
The problem is the Jets don't run the ball this year like last year and your D line is ineffective this year as well. The Colts only stop the run in the playoffs, but with as many injuries as we have, the jets may be able to have more offense this year than last. But the issue I see is can Sanchez play a game full of short dink and dunk passes without Freeney and Mathis getting to him? Cromartie and Revis are good at covering, but this year Revis stats aren't anything to brag about and he is still getting props from last year. I think this will be a good game and the Jets may win too. I am happy the Colts made it to the playoffs
