Like Hobbes said, he'll get even better. This game was huge for his self confidence and for those of us who have been defending his potential since April. Great game to watch.
There was a run that he ran into the pile, and it looked like a 2 yard game. All of the sudden, he fits through a crack in the pile and picks up 4+ yards. Kept his feet moving. It was great too see. And two hands on the ball when contact is coming!!
I admit it. I was wrong about JmK. He had a great game today being the featured back and if it continues, he could be heir apparent to LT.
Interesting Joe McKnight facts for 2010: ~Joe McKnight had the best single-game performance of any Jets running back. ~Joe McKnight is the only Jets running back with 30+ carries in a game. ~Joe McKnight has as many or more 100+ yard games than any other Jets running back. (1; T-LT). ~Joe McKnight's vomit cures cancer.
Not to mention he consistently falls forward now, which is great to see. TJ was always the master of that.
Amazing what a little patience does for a player with Mcknight's talent... if only there was a group of people telling everyone to get their panties out of that wad all season.
From up where I was sitting, I thought that McKnight looked remarkably like TJ in more ways than one. His patience waiting for holes to develop in addition to what you mentioned in particular suck out to me. I'm not saying that he'll be TJ 2.0, but I thought that some of the similarities between their styles was pretty striking.
Was never a huge fan of his and even though it was against a laughable Run D in BUF...McKnight had a great game and really showed alot of fresh legs and ripped off some great runs. Everyone was running on the Bills....McKnight, Clemens, Smith, Connor. Hope this is something to come for McKnight going forward though, he can be a viable option.
What they said: McKnight earned a roster spot with his special teams play. Right now he's trying to get some playing time in the post season. Indianapolis delenda est.
McKnight exceeded my expectations. I thought he would do well against Buffalo's horrid run D but he played downright awesome. Looked like a hall of famer out there. I can't think of one play where McKnight looked bad as a runner.
Oh, I agree. Hell, mcknight's catching ability, speed, and elusiveness petty much fly in the face of TJs style of football. his patience in particular for holes to develop on some plays reminded me of TJ. I think he has the potential to be much more of a cog in this o because his skillet is much less one dimensional.
This. I really want to see McKnight coming out of the backfield or in the slot against the Colts. Something, anything to get him into open space. Indianapolis delenda est.
I certainly hope that he can be our x factor. Other than holmes and maybe smith we don't really seem to have anyone who's that much of a that to break one at any time. McKnight seems like he has the potential to be one of those guys, and could work as a triple threat - as a runner, as a receiver, and on specials. McKnight was picking up yardage in 5 yard chunks today when everyone and their mother knew he was running the ball. I'd like to see what he can do in space.
Irony alert. The day of McNight's big debut, scrappy white Danny Woodheadpecker gets stuffed and fumbles: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81d61207/Woodhead-fumble
