Don't feel too bad.....I'm sure DWare, where ever he is, still loves VG. Can't teach passion, can't teach someone to love football. The only thing VG loves is the millions he's made for squat.
In order to play defense, you have to have a nasty attitude and want to hurt, if not kill, the opposing player. VG simply does not have that. He's too nice a person. Nothing personal but, though he does have all the natural abilities (physical) he doesn't have the mental attitude to play football. He's simply not an aggressive person and unfortunately, that is what you need as a pass rusher. Now as for getting him a sack, teams don't double team him so he should get free, but as for closing the deal, that I gotta see. Who knows, maybe if he gets one, the light will go on in his head and he might help us come the playoffs. Yeah , I know, but stranger things have happened. I call it wishfull thinking.
I agree. Don't think it has anything to do with his work ethic. He seems like a team player and genuinely good guy. He just doesn't have that edge you need to play defense. Next season I wish him the best but will be glad to not see him on this team.
that might be more likely. also it could be a mental block and if he gets a first he might get over it. (but that's just naive)
He got lots of sacks in college, and that didn't seem to spark any type of fire that lasted into his professional career.
He agreed to a position change and a cut in salary, he's done just about everything the coaches have asked but mentally he simply is not an "Alpha" male. He reminds me of a friend that is the nicest guy you ever want to meet but who never gets into fights or stands up for himself and thus gets sh.. upon buy people that he should (and could easily) slap silly. He's just a big teddy bear that, in the NFL, simply does not belong. Hopefully, in future drafts, we realize where we made this mistake in the mental evaluation of this player, and do not make it again.
As far as individual goals go, I'd rather see: 1) Shonn Greene have a hundred yard game. 2) Darrelle Revis get a pick. 3) Tony Richardson score a touchdown. 4) Fireman Ed get a handjob from the flight crew. After we've taken care of those priorities, then worry about Vernon and his sack.
That's because physically, he dominated. Imagine a freshman in high school playing pee wee football and that will put you in the ballpark. As all people that have enormous natural talent, he didn't have to work to dominate at that level (see Joe McKnight on our current roster) but once he moved up... the game is no longer just physical but also mental. Simply put, if you don't have that proper attitude (see Bart Scott) your not going to succeed. He simply is too nice a guy to play in the NFL.
he used to jerk off all over jake long though. i dont remember, but was jake long good his rookie season? ghosts last game of college was vs jake, and he got 3 sacks of some shit. this gholston shit is mind boggling. how the fuck cant this asshole use his strength, and get any sort of technique? wtf is wrong with him? he looks like he isnt even trying in these videos. just steam rolling people.
Its hard to believe VG every played like that. He actually looks agile and dominant. Only thing I can think of is that he doesn't like or care about football, especially now that he got paid.
It's actually pretty sad that it's come to this. Vernon Gholston went from the #6 pick overall and a shitload of hype to "Guys, we have to try and get Vernon a sack...he deserves it" Unbelievable.
damn seeing that video, you'd just never know. he looked so damn quick and powerful, but that is also the difference between college and the pros
It sure would be nice if the Jets had a pass rusher like that #50 in those videos.. we should pick up that guy!
