I think only certain "special" players should be given this remedial tackling class.

This is good news. It should not be said that our guys are just not good pass rushers, because that is bullshit. Trevor Pryce, Jason Taylor, Shaun Ellis, these guys have been good year in and year out.

It is fundamentals. Tackling, shedding blocks, simple stuff. They are focusing so much on strategy they are forgetting to play football.

We need someone to lead this defense. Someone to communicate where everyone should be. this defense is desperately missing Leonhard in a big way.

Maybe Rex should have had them practicing fundamentals in training camp instead of mugging for the camera for Hard Knocks.

Good. Watching Forte surrounded by defenders in the back field only to break arm tackle after arm tackle to rush for no less than four yards was the most sickening part of Sunday's loss. I can forgive the gamble on the fake punt but I cannot forgive watching a "defensive genius'" unit play with shit fundamentals like that.

Leonhard's responsibility was to set up the secondary. Harris is defensive captain and the one calling the plays in the huddle. The defense was in position for the mosy part against the Bears on Sunday it's just that no one could actually bring him down. I'm not sure if they were over pursuing or if they were just trying arm tackle him the whole time but the respomse was there, the execution was missing.

People blame Hard Knocks for tons of shit, or use Hard Knocks as a actuality chart for what has gone on for this team over the course of the season.

I find all of that fucking retarded, considering that show is beyond edited and half the shit they show didn't happen. The Rob Turner - Vernon Gholston "fight" never happened.

Turner said it didn't in an interview.

    Hard Knocks can blow me.

    This is news?

The Jets have been tackling like shit throughout the season.
The DL has sucked all season.

They're addressing "fundamentals" now? In week 15?

OK...a little different but hey...it's Rex.

Maybe we can rest some starters in week 1 next year.

That passing game has looked good recently.

They were horrible in the beginning of the season, but not all season.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with going back to the basics after that defensive "performance" Sunday?

They, the coaching staff have largely corrected the penalties, the wildly undisciplined bullshit ones. Why doesn't it stand to reason that Rex and company can correct the defense to a certain extent?

Yeah 10-5 ....10-6 at worst, which is an improvement from last year anyway you slice it.

Schemes can disguise the weakness only so far.

You will never win the Kentucky Derby on a fucking DONKEY.

How dare Rex make the team get back to fundamentals! What is he thinking? He should have just let this problem go on and not try to fix it, so that everyone could complain more about what a bad job he's doing with the defense.

How anybody can complain about this or say Rex overlooked things because they were on Hard Knocks is just beyond me. You guys (who are complaining) do know that Rex is a good football coach who has been doing this for a long time right? Do you think he just did nothing in training camp? Really?

That's something I have an issue with. Part of Rex's statement was about how we should compare this defense to other defenses this year, not to last years unit, because last years unit was so exceptional.

Personnel-wise, we traded Kerry Rhodes for Brodney Poole, Lito Shepherd for Antonio Cromartie, Donald Strickland for Kyle Wilson, and nobody for Jason Taylor. Personnel wise, these Jets are almost certainly better. Losing Rhodes is a bit of a drop-off, but Poole is a talented safety, and he's now got as much experience in Rex's defense as Rhodes had. We added Trevor Pryce out of nowhere, Devito and Pouha have to be better now than they were a year ago. Both years we're without Kris Jenkins, who would obviously be a huge plus. Losing Leonhard matters, but the front seven is where things seem to be really lacking to me.

How can we account for this defense performing worse, really? Strickland probably played the slot better than anybody has this year, but he was injured more often than not. The players know the system better, and the same guys are calling the plays.

Based on what I'm seeing, it really does seem like guys just aren't getting it done on the field. Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas, Shaun Ellis, Trevor Pryce, and Jason Taylor are all talented enough players that if they're consistently getting single blocked, they should each occasionally be able to bring pressure, and between the alls of them, they should be able to make the scheme work. Rather than focusing on learning new plays or opponents tendencies, those guys will spend the next two weeks remembering how to beat a block. Hopefully it works out.
