So at what point does this get hijacked into a McKnight vs. Woodhead with a side order of Leon Washington thread?
So money, fame, glory, helping the team win=nada But a white boy from a D3 school outperforming him=motivation
He used up all his money, fame, and glory motivation at USC. He needed a D2 5'6 white boy for his NFL motivation.
Can't wait to see him get some more opportunities I think he is going to be a good player in the NFL. Whether it's with the Jets or another team is the only question in my mind
thing that worries me is he was perfectly content doing 'just enough' before training camp reality set in. thank god he wasn't weed tested.
I'm sure Joe is a great guy, has amazing physical ability, but his main problem is between his ears / himself. If he can't get that problem resolved, he's toast. I don't think self confidence can be taught or coached, you just have to have it. McKnight does not have it, where Woodhead does have it, without question. Just by watching Woodhead's interviews, how he conducts himself, what he says and how he says it, shows that he is well grounded, and mentally prepared all the time. McKnight has a long, long way to go, and I honestly don't know if he will ever get "there".
His confidence is being rebuilt. The kid had bad college habits and has to learn how to play the game the NFL way. Its going to take time, but the potential he has makes patience worth it if he reaches his ceiling. He won't be a total washout.
This shitbag needs a white RB to be motivated? Well why didn't he open his trap earlier? Bloody excuses!
Joe McKnight: 'I didn't really know what my future was going to hold with Woodhead doing all the good things' By Manish Mehta Joe McKnight understands what the Jets did for him. Danny Woodhead had outplayed him in the preseason, but Rex Ryan ultimately decided to stick with McKnight anyway. (Woodhead was cut after Week 1). In a quiet moment in the Jets lockerroom, McKnight admitted that he felt an added burden when Woodhead was making plays this preseason. “During the whole camp, Woodhead was doing some great things,” McKnight told me. “It was getting to me, because I didn’t really know what my future was going to hold with Woodhead doing all the good things. And I really wasn’t doing anything.” McKnight lost three fumbles in the preseason, while Woodhead was making a difference in the run game, passing game and special teams. The team released Woodhead after the first game to make room for WR David Clowney, who was subsequently released. “Once Woodhead left, I was like, ‘Ok, they’re giving me the chance to show them.’” McKnight said. “That’s how I took it when they let Woodhead go. Basically, it was like, ‘Here, Joe. We want you to do good. We want you to be great. You just got to show us.’” “So I just got focused on showing the coaches that they didn’t make a bad decision on drafting me,” he added. McKnight was activated for the first time last week against Buffalo. He gained 12 yards on 4 carries and played on special teams. However, special teams coach Mike Westhoff suggested that McKnight likely won’t be active tomorrow night against the Vikings. Meanwhile, Woodhead has found a home with the Patriots, filling the third-down role void left by Kevin Faulk, who was lost for the season with a knee injury in Week 2 against the Jets. “Danny can come-in in that kind of role,” Ryan said. “He’s a good runner with the football and a good receiver, so I think he’s doing well for them. You always love when guys are successful when they leave. You just hate to see it be in your own division. As much as I like Woodhead, I wish he wouldn’t be so successful in New England.” McKnight is fully appreciative for what the team did for him. He realizes that he may have been long gone if the Jets didn’t invest a fourth-round pick in him this season. “This is something new to me,” McKnight said of his early struggles as a pro. “But I think I’m doing well by handling adversity.” ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* I think this story pretty much has Joe admitting that he knows he got a free pass to make the team.
Mcknight was spectacular to me in college when I watched him. Put him in and let LT rest. If he fumbles then it's to the practice squad lol.
