I lost a lot of confidence after hearing about Leonhard's injury. Something about it really put me down. I just have a bad feeling about the season overall now. Not going to lie. I hope they prove me wrong, obviously.
Thing is, he wasn't playing particularly well anyway (not at his usual level). Now if thats down to other players around him and because of comms issues, then I don't see much change really.
if eric smith is only half as good as leonard, that's still only a 4% drop off over 11 players. so my confidence has dropped 4%. but, on the onther hand, this means shotty will open it up to score a few more points. much better game to wathc. no chance of a ravens repeat monday night! now my confidence just went UP 100% pre leonard injury: jets 27 NE 17 post leonard injury: jets 44 NE 21
Most teams would try to immediately go after Eric Smith in this game, but go after him with what? Cro or Revis will tie up their best deep ball guy and then what do they have to test Smith or Dig with? The loss of Leonard makes no difference in this game. Against another team it might mean something, but against the Pats it means nothing.
I view Leohnard's role in our defense as Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu. Not necessarily for his skill but his passion, heart and understanding of the game! He is our defense QB. I am interested to see how we bounce back from this injury!
Wayne Hunter And the last full day of preparation is done. Eric Smith has got this defense down to the T. Won't miss a beat. That's what us backups do.
Losing Jim pisses the team off, from now on it's win it for Jim. First victim the putsies. Unless Ladyboy starts blowing the officials they have no chance.
Well I THOUGHT the pats were gonna win by 17 before this injury. now maybe 18 JETS suck. Remember when you idiots were debating whether a Pats win or a Ravens win was better for you? Please answer in a few weeks when youre @ Indy and peyton's lightin you up again
Brady_chump Do you only watch your team's offensive possessions? And if we suck, how come you've lost the last 2 of 3 even with brady back? the good thing, after Monday we'll never hear from you again because you're not man enough to eat crow. When you're out on that ledge...please, jump.
Sorry, clearly we're watching different teams. I'm talking about the team that lit up the steelers @ Pittsburgh. injury this bad game that yeah? Down by 10 at home vs Ravens, 4th quarter. That takes guts, that takes great team effort, offense and defense (..for example, force punts on final 5 possessions). Nah man, luck this bad luck that. I get it..our defense isn't what it was...and yeah, doesn't play a full 60 minutes. But watch the first half against Peyton..first half against Steelers. Second half against Ravens. They can do more then enough to put our MVP-led offense in a position to win. No shame in saying we count on Brady to win the game..he's more then capable. Especially at home where we haven't lost in ages. I guess we can go back and forth forever till Monday Night's done with. I promise I'll be here on Tuesday. Get that long thread about how the pats will DEFINITELy collapse and how the jets'll run the table and regain homefield ready
Jim's passion was huge... but his size was not at 5'8 he would have a tough time on one of those big TE's. Eric Smith is 6'1... so what if he isn't as instincutal on stopping the run. The Pats don't run the ball. If he plays the screens well we'll be fine. It would have been great to see Jim cream Danny Roadhead though.
Yeah, you're probably right. Losing the best safety on the team days before facing the best offense they have faced all year means nothing.
You're right it definitely means something. If anything though, the effect could be minimized if they planned on using Jimmy on one of the TE's. At 5'8 Leonhard wasn't the best in coverage against some of the bigger guys in the league. The biggest impact will be communicating the defense, but word on the street is that Smith has 'got it down to a t'. We'll find out Monday night I guess..
