5-6 in the post season. 0-1 in a SB he got to on an illeagal forward pass 6 playoff appearences in 16 years. Hell, the Jets have the same number of appearnces in the postseason under 5 different coaches. And are 5-6 in the post season over the same time.
He's 141-112 as a coach. He's a good coach. A great one? Maybe not, so I guess you could argue he's overrated. But usually people don't talk about him as the best coach in the NFL.
Considering he's done relatively well in that time span without a 'franchise' quarterback, I'd consider him good/great. He had McNair for a while but since his absence hasn't had consistency at the most important position. Probably doesn't help that the team shows little activity in free agency. Deserves more credit than that I think.
Good post. If Tennessee had consistent quarterback play, they'd be a playoff contender, especially in division like the AFC South.
I was going to post that. The only time he's done well was with an actual QB. He's been consistent. He didn't want Young, and I more than agree with him on that. I would have never have taken him either. Get him a franchise QB and he'll do well. If Garrett doesn't work out, I could see him in Dallas. I think Garrett gets the job though
He's overrated as a championship caliber coach but he's a great reg season coach and will more oftne than not have his teams in position to do something in january- sort of like a modern day marty Schottenheimer except he at last has a SB app.
Well he basically had to go to the playoffs as a wildcard for the past 10 seasons playing against peyton manning and the colts. He might be a little overrated but he is still a great coach. 141-112 as a coach is an amazing stat his team never really gives up!!1
I was on a Titans message board the other day to see what they wanted in the draft, and there was a thread where about 80% of the posters said Head Coach was the team's biggest need. It just struck me, considering I figured that he was a beloved figure down in Nashville. I guess the grass isn't greener down there.
After the end of the Herm era, there were rumors the Jets would get Fisher as their new head coach and I was praying they would get him. Still wish that had come through, as much as I love Rex.
The owner is the problem, not the coach. Fisher does a lot with so little since they let all their players go who are in their prime.
i think he is a good coach. before we got rex i would want this guy. you can say the same thing about andy reid being overrated too.
IIRC,the Titans were the last team to really end up in salary cap hell. They had to completely rebuild the team in the middle of the decade.
the Frank Wycheck play was legal...on initial glance i thought no way, but the call was right. besides...Belicheck w/o the tuck rule may have never amounted to anything either lucky and good. I think he is a good coach, but has never had a great qb... I'd say his biggest knock has been Manning's dominance over his team/division...that's why I like Rex's focus on NE.
He is now 146-123 (regular season 141-117; postseason 5-6). Maybe it is a bit strange, but the league's default is to record regular season and postseason records together when it comes to coaches. Fisher is currently 20th on the all-time wins list. Of the 19 coaches with more victories, only Dan Reeves had a worse winning percentage than Fisher. Coaches with more wins than Fisher who have not yet been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame- Marty Schottenheimer (205-139-1) Dan Reeves (201-174-2) Chuck Knox (193-158-1) Bill Parcells (183-138-1) Mike Holmgren (174-122-0) Bill Belichick (172-99-0 through 12/5/10) Bill Cowher (161-99-1) Mike Shanahan (159-110-0 through 12/5/10) Tony Dungy (148-79-0)
