I doubt Boston would do that. They'd be too scared of being saddled with that contract. This is the team that just let Victor Martinez walk for less. He's four years younger and a better hitter.

Good to see Jeter will be signing his retirement papers soon. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I would have thought he was smarter than that.

Jeter is absolutely out of his mind. I understand high-balling during negotiations, but he's being ridiculous. And I thought Revis' demands were unreasonable.

The agent said the rumors about Jeter's alleged demands are not accurate.

Which means they were accurate. How many people have to say it before you believe it?

What kind of f'd up Orwellian world do you live in? A tabloid hack prints a rumor* from an unnamed source, and that's taken as fact. But the person who is in charge of the negotiations disputes the rumor on the record, and that's proof that it was true? And you believe this despite claiming that you thought Jeter was smarter than that, meaning you didn't initially expect him to want that? Wow.

Regardless, you are missing the point: whether or not Jeter did want that much at one point, he (or rather his agent) is now on the record as saying that it is not true.

    * - And it should also be noted that multiple people repeating the same rumor from the same source doesn't increase the veracity of said rumor. So to answer your question, how many people have to say something for me to believe it? Only one, if it's done right. But in this context? Don't believe anything. It could have been a media driven attempt to create a story out of nothing. It could have been leaked by the agent to see what the mood was. It could have been put forth by the Yankees to turn people against Jeter. It could have been any number of things. But in this particular situation, nothing's ranking very high on my believability scale.

They say the Yankees may reconsider and make a higher offer.

The Marlins are the perfect team for Vazquez. He'll collect his 7 million, live in a nice city and have 0 pressure on him to perform

The Yankees and free-agent closer Mariano Rivera are closing in on a new contract that will pay him $17 million.

Rivera, 41, is seeking a two-year deal but the Yankees have not yet agreed to go beyond one more season.

New York, however, doesn't appear to have a problem giving Rivera a raise over his $15 million salary in 2010.

Yeah, doesn't sound like their panties are in a twist... that whole "angrily" part sounds like speculation.

So I guess what all you Jeter haters are saying is that he's not worth Kei Igawa money. Right?

If the majority of the money they give Jeter comes out of their business budget like it did with Igawa, then I don't care what they pay him.

This is for Mickey Mantle fans. I came across this letter to Mickey from the Yankees on the website below. Click on the letter to read it, then click on Mickey's response to the letter. They claim it's authentic. I don't know, but I would not be surprised if it was the real thing. Maybe I should write NSFW? :)
