I really do not understand the heat the defense is getting. They shutdown the Texans offense for the first 3 quarters frustrating the hell out of Schaub and the passing game. Arian Foster was only decent. Then people are making such a big deal "YEAH GREENE FUMBLED BUT THEY SCORED ON ONE PLAY. ONE PLAY!!!!" The play was an accidental mix up in coverage that brought Cromartie to the middle and left the TE wide open. Not b/c anyone got beat straightup like coleman usually does. Then our injury plagued o-line was devoured by good passrushers the next two drives (punt, interception) and gave the Texans chances. If we were able to runout the clock like instead of going - fumble/punt/interception the defense would not have even been in issue and we'd be saying what a shutdown d they were.
this post alone should bar you from creating threads in the future. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1935927&postcount=1
You make some good points. The troubling thing is that these "communication issues" in the secondary have been going on since the Baltimore game. What should be a simple, fixable issue has persisted through more than half the season.
They were great for 3 quarters then the Texans had receivers running completely wide open. This seems to be happening a little too often. Plus there is just no heat on the QB.
It's great that they held Hou to 7 pts through 3 qtrs but games are 4 qtrs long at least and they aren't playing 4 qtrs. Winning defense isn't played for 3 qtrs, you can be lights out for 3 and blow a big lead in the 4th and you have had a bad game. Thankfully the O saved the D AGAIN but this cannot continue. The D has to play like a big time D, they have all the parts.
Honestly Cynic, you are getting annoying. Your quotes about Cromartie, and fumbling is good are very juvinile. Obviously, nobody here is happy that Green fumbled, but you know what, our Offense os one of, if not the best in the league in turnovers. I don't want to hear that we keep putting the D in bad spots. Sanchez has done very well securing the ball this year, and he has two more int's than our D has forced. (7 to 5) Green has 2 Fumbles Lost, LT has 0. I think Holmes and Edwards each have 1. With numbers like this, our turnover ratio should be 3 to 1 but it's closer to 1 to 1. I'm getting tired of the defensive apologists on here. For weeks I've been saying this D needs to improve and the last few weeks have made this undeniable.
Our D needs to be able to pick up our O at the end of games instead of the other way around every week. We also need to force more turnovers. I can not remember the last time we have gotten a pick.
Exactly what I was going to say. It is not good enough to play good the first three quarters and then say "well it was only one quarter of bad play". It was pretty bad.
You don't squander a 17 point lead like that, especially not a Rex defense. It also doesn't matter if the D played lights out 3 1/2 quarters, they can just as easily fuck it up in about 8 minutes, which is exactly what they did. The offense also had a chance made up for Greenes fumble by winning the game. The defense didn't have a shot at redemption.
The 'D' sorely needs to keep the action in front of them. You can't let dudes run upfield. Cro should have been on Dresson who broke outside. They had plenty of guys in the middle. And I don't know what happened on that bootleg screen where Shaub had hours to throw. It was like the whole defense sold out. It's obvious our defense is predictable in the two minute.
I'm sorry but the defense deserves all of the Criticism it is getting. You don't blow a 23-7 lead at home, late in the second half if you are a great defense. This defense has a lot of work to do.
One has to wonder if the 2010 Jets are on their way to being the 2009 Bengals... Got into the playoffs with a pretty good record and were immediately ejected when the going got tough. The Jets are 8-2 but I have never seen an 8-2 team fill me with less confidence than this team does right now. I fear we may get in with a 12-4 record and be immediately bounced the second we hit some upper echelon resistance.
Like against NE who we beat by 2 TDs? people are acting like no good teams win close games, I agree there are some alarming signs but check all the supposed top teams and let me know what you find. You will see tons of close games.
I think we'll see what this team is made of when they go up against the Pats and Steelers. Miami should be out of it by then so it might not be as important to them, but Chicago remains a threat. If the Jets beat the Pats again, then beat Pittsburgh, THEN I'll start to think they have a chance in the playoffs. Right now though, they've done nothing to make me think they can hang with the tougher teams in the league (see Baltimore and Green Bay). They need to prove that to us the rest of the regular season. They need to prove it to themselves actually...
I'll settle for beating NE or Pittsburgh. I think it's borderline unrealistic to expect to win both. I can almost guarantee that we see an entirely different Patriots team than the one we beat in week 2. The Bears in Chicago will be very tough and with Miami and Buffalo being big division rivals, you just never know. Aren't the Jets infamous for blowing big games to inferior Buffalo teams?
I think Santonio Holmes can really help us in the Pittsburgh game. He knows their entire playbook. He should know how to attack their defense and where the weaknesses are. I would think the Pats game will be tougher than the Pittsburgh game, but all of them will be knock down drag out fights from here on out.
