I guess I'm picking nits but I don't think there are any elite teams this year. There are just very good teams. No team or teams has separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
True the pats are not the team they were. However it would be super sweet to sweep them this year I cannot remember the last time the Jets swept the season series against the pats.
I agree with that. There have been teams that have shown bursts of being elite, but no team has done it with any consistency.
I think our defense matched up very well with the Pats when Moss was there and their offense was predictable. They are a completely different offensive team then they were in week 2. On defense our best assets are Cromatie, revis and the size of our front 7 stopping the run. I fully expect that the Pats are going to go 4 or 5 wide with multiple tight ends in space, the little f$ckers welker, woodhead and edelman. If they lineup Gronkowski, Hernandez and Crumpler who exactly on the Jets is going to cover these guys? From a man to man matchup we are going to have an extremely difficult time matching up with the size/speed of their 3 tight ends and a very hard time matching up with their fast shifty rb's/wr's. The Jets are barely getting any pressure on teams right now so unless something drastic changes I don't see how they are going to pressure brady and not get killed by the short passing game. I posted a thread about my concerns about linebackers and safeties playing against the pass. The Pats basically built this offense with the Jets defense in mind. I do think that the Jets are a better team but the Pats are a much more disciplined team. Penalties, dumb turnovers, clock management all favor the Pats. Keep in mind both teams play on thanksgiving so they will have extra days to prepare for this game.
For years we've been asking what it would take to match the Pat's and asking for talent to make it to their level. Now that we're here some of you can't even see that we are here. This is our moment as fans and team alike. You may not know it but there is a silent stir in the hearts of Pats fans and coaches up in Foxboro. They are no longer the bad boys of the block. It's gonna be two gunfighters standing in the middle of deserted dusty street at high noon in December. And it may be like this for the next few years. Even if we split the degree of seperation is neglegible at this point. Get used to it Jets fans.
The Patriots are finally what I have been waiting for them to become for years. Overrated. And when the Jets sweep them this season, in Foxboro, the rest of the league will realize it.
No fear on this end, beat em once convincingly, can do it again. My concerns are soley focused on the Jets. If the Jets can finally get back to the form they showed in those back to back games in NE and Buffalo, I think the Jets can beat anybody. (Well they might need an asisst from Tonya Harding's bodyguard against Vick and those dudes....but all kidding aside) No fear. Just frustration that it's taking so long for the team to click. I'm hoping it comes together this week because if it doesn't it's less likely to happen on 3 days rest Thanksgiving. Those are our last two tuneups before our showdown in Foxboro. This is it Jet fans...this is where the real drive for the hardware begins.
If the Pats go 5 wide Brady will get absolutely destroyed. Teams have stopped our pass rush with max protect a lot of the time, which is smart, but doesn't leave them with so many options to throw to. There biggest deep threat right now is a frikin TE, so we can obviously put a CB on him with no help and flood the middle of the field with defenders. Also, they don't really have a running game and don't commit to the run so we can sell out on stopping the pass, like Rob Ryan and the Browns did. I'm very confident we'll keep there offensive output to a minimum.
That. and I still fear the Pittsburgh game. That's one of those teams that no matter the alleged difference between us, we never do well against.
The press tends to over-hype the Pats, sure. For the usual reasons (Brady and Bellichick) but also because it's clear they are rebuilding half the team and still trying to be in the playoff mix come January. It's been kind of impressive as a Pats fan. I wouldn't pull out the injury card too much. The Jets lost to the crippled Packers and barely won against Detroit without their star QB. Injuries are just part of the game. The Patriots really need to beat the Colts to keep pace with the Jets and if they can, the game in Foxboro should be a real battle. For all the marbles. Both teams need to continue to win and play well. I am definitely glad it's in Foxboro. Any advantage like that is welcome.
Agreed, the refs have been horrible this year as it is, hopefully the Colts will beat them this Sunday.
The only reason I point to the Steelers injuries is people are acting like that team is the best in football. With all those guys in the trenches missing they clearly aren't. Like I said, it was a good win, but it was no sign of dominance. No one is saying the Jets are great because they beat the Lions.
I agree they won't go 5 wide too much. But they will probably have 3 or 4 receivers lined up off the line and have 1 or 2 of them be tight ends. I assume that Revis can cover welker one on one. Cromatie can deal with Tate/Branch. Like you said the tight end is the biggest threat down the field so the Jets will need to do everything they can to stop those routes. It will probably require a lot of hi-low coverage with the linebackers and safeties. Their running game doesn't scare me. I just worry about our ability to cover all of the short passes and the passes to the tight ends down the field. From a man to man perspective we do not matchup well with them.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats keep playing the two TE offense. The more they can keep those bodies off of Brady, the better they'll do. Between Hernandez and Gronkowski they can pick and choose the type of offense they want. Crumpler is a doing great as a blocking TE.
We're going to need a better pass rush, if you let Brady stand there all day it's a recipe for disaster. If we get some heat on him I think we can win up there, we've actually been better vs the Pats in Foxboro than at home the past 8-10 years.
