I give him a solid B. There has been a lot of sloppy play so far with penalties, bad use of timeouts (IMO) and twice the team looked really bad when they had more than one week to prepare.

That said, they are 6-2 and are tied for the best record in the league. They have a lot of room for improvement in coaching, and executing on both offense and defense. That's a good spot to be in when you're tied for the best record in the league halfway through the season.

    Agreed.

The penalties absolutely cost us the Ravens game, and I expected a much sharper much more disciplined team out there to start the season.

Now I know there is only so much a coach can do....but Parcells led teams always got an "A" grade in discipline, so I know it can be done.

It would easily be "A" for Rex if it weren't for the ongoing penalty thing.

This pretty much covers it. Add in the fact that this is only his second year as a head coach, it leaves me very optimistic about our future. On the field or off the field, I love this guys attitude and what he has done for the whole organization.

    Negatives:

-Penalties is the obvious one to me. Jets have received some nonsense personal foul calls for hitting players while inbounds but even if you pull those kinds of penalties out of the equation, the Jets still have room for improvement in this area.

-Coming off byes. Maybe it's just bad luck but the Jets haven't been @ their best after taking a week off.

-Be more careful w/ how much freedom players have on the field. For a punter to have the ability to call a fake whenever he feels like it no matter what is the field position or score wasn't smart.

    - Jets offense can perform better imho. FIRE SCHOTTY HE SUCKS!!!!! is all over the forums but Schotty reports to Rex. Rex needs to take some responsibility for some of the offensive failures also.

    =====
Positives: too much work to list them all.

Rex has done so many things right. The resurgence of: Cromartie, LT definitely fall under Rex. The D holding up well while Revis was missing & then trying to recover from injury also falls under Rex. One of the best special teams in the league. Conner is Ryan's pick & is turning out really good. Jenkins injury was devastating but the Jets D finds & develops a very nice replacement. Gholston took a pay cut & is playing on the Line & is contributing (not dominating but he's contributing). There's a lot more good stuff but I'm tired of typing. Rex has done an incredibly good job & the positives outweigh the negatives by a wide margin.

    =====
Wanted to give "A-" but since it's not option, I gave B. The penalties really need to go down. It's one of the few weaknesses on this team but it can really bite the Jets in playoffs against the other top AFC teams.

The clock management has been weak. Discipline has been very bad. But the gameplans have, overall, been solid and the team record speaks for itself.

    B.

    Same.

Indiscipline and some odd play calling at times (offensively) have been whats let us down so far.
Considering the amount of supposed 'distractions' in the team, I don't think its that bad.
The penalty thing pisses me off no end.

    B-

    play calling has been spotty
    too many penalties
overall tho were 6-2 so were still rolling, we could be 8-0 though if he cleaned the penalties and play calling up

    B+

Would have been an A- or A if not for his poor gameplan against the ravens.

B, but it could easily be a C if we're 4-4 right now.

Clock issues and penalties. Other than that, it's an A in my book.

Has to be a B. The team has done great, but some bad coaching moves have cost us. Too many penalties, but at 6-2, no way you can be given a C. B it is!!!

I gave a B but like everyone has already said the offense needs to really step it up for the second half of the season. Starting with the Browns, this game scares the heck out of me and I just hope the recievers step it up and catch the balls thrown to them. Let Sanchez toss a few deep heck we have the talent.

    B. He needs to get better control of this team, not just the defense.

penalties, players calling there own audibles, OC play calling, and the guy who tells him when to challenge or not all need improvement or to stop.

No more of this "this is your offense and this is your special teams", this is all Rex's team and he needs to understand that.

    B

    Many positives.....

However, the negatives are the lack of discipline (ridiculous amount of penalties) and the fact the team has come out flat the last 3 games.

Three out of four times a Rex Ryan coached team has had more than one week to prepare for a game, they've lost. (Two season openers, two BYEs).

I've found myself checking the standings of the Steelers and Ravens and Chiefs and Colts throughout the season because I'm naturally inclined to root for homefield advantage and a first round BYE. But honestly, I'm not even sure that would be a significant advantage for us.

Of the four previously mentioned games, we won the road game; we lost the three home games. That's wacky; when Rex has had more than one week to prepare for a home game, he's lost, three times in a row.

We're .500 at home this year and undefeated on the road. We're actually the only NFL team that hasn't lost a road game yet. We're fucking road warriors! Rub some dirt on it, get on the jet, kick some ass.
