Now we have body language fines. "Today, there was a play in practice when [Sanchez] screwed something up," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday via Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. "He kind of looked like it was someone else's fault. That's a fine." As we saw during Hard Knocks, Sanchez seems to struggle with how to act like a starting quarterback. Or at least he doesn't always act with the confidence that his coaches want. Sanchez reportedly wanted to start the system. Backup Mark Brunell collects the money, which probably amounts to a couple bucks for a shoulder shrug or an exasperated eye roll. As Braylon Edwards informed us, Sanchez isn't good enough to criticize his receivers yet. Things would have been even worse if they fined Sanchez as a rookie. "He'd be broke," Schottenheimer said. "As much money as he has, he'd be broke with all the body language he had last year." Just imagine if the Bears did this on gamedays with Jay Cutler.
That's a real problem in my opinion. The QB is supposed to be the leader of the offense. He's the man in charge, he's the one that is directing things. As for the play on the field, he's the boss. He can and should criticize receivers if they screw up. He also needs to take the criticism and admit when he's the one who screws up, but the idea that he can't criticize receivers... that's not a good thing IMHO.
Dude he's in his second year. Most QBs are babied for their first couple years because they need to ease into it, not everyone is a commanding leader from day 1. Up until just recently, we are seeing Sanchez get it done and the receivers making him look bad. Right now the league sees this as Sanchez continuing to struggle, while more informed people are seeing all of these drops a game and saying how is this Sanchez' fault? If this trend continues, I think Sanchez will be in more of position to criticize. IMO Braylon needs to can it because WRs are our biggest problem right now.
I think it's a great idea, positive body language is much more important than people think..especially for the leader and QB These 2 quotes really annoy me. The first one is just PFT talking out of their ass as usual...and the 2nd one made it seem a lot more harsh than what Bralyon really said/how he worded it.
Well, Stafford has been so I guess your QB just isn't as good. :wink: Seriously though, I think the QB really has to be seen as the leader and has to be able to and willing to caller a player out if he screwed up. I'm not talking about calling him out publicly, but in the huddle saying: You screwed up on that one. Believe me, as a Lions fan I've seen more than my fair share of new QBs. Those who aren't leaders rarely develop into anything good. (Or is it QBs who are Lions rarely develop into anything good??) Now this is one comment from one receiver so I may be reading WAY more into this than is really there, but hey, I'm a Lions fan looking for hope that my team has a shot on Sunday. I may go a little off the deep end if it's anti-Jets at times.

I partially think the reason why Sanchez hasn't been the commanding leader thus far has been the fact that he is actually pretty young (leaving 1 year early from USC) on a team of many veterans and veteran leadership and also the fact that our defense and run game are very talented and that there is no urgent reason for him to need to take over the game completely. Sanchez has done and said all of the right things, and everyone is confident that he will eventually be our franchise QB. In terms of Stafford, he came onto a team with no wins and was supposed to be the savior of your franchise. Therefore, he has needed to be the leader from day 1.
If you listened to both press conferences, you get a better understanding of what they are trying to do with Sanchez, and Brunnell is taking a lead role in it. They want Sanchez to be more even keeled, not so silly freakin nutso happy when he throws a TD, and not so down when he screws up. As Shcotty said, he's an emotional kid, and that can get in the way sometimes. A QB always has to keep his head on straight. A QB can't be dancing around in the end zone when the CS may be making a decision about going for two or something else. He doesn't have to be a robot, but good leaders always keep their heads about them in a crisis. It's all about his mental approach to the game. Keep in mind too, that it's being done in a tongue in cheek way, keeping it light. Sanchez likes to kid around, so this is right up his alley. Sanchez is what now, 23? One year as a starter in college and one in the NFL? Should it come as some sort of surprise that he needs to mature a bit more? QB's like Braddford even now have more experience than Sanchez does in his career as a starter including college.
