I've thought about that, he seems to have every tool, one of which all the others lacked--the arm, some mobility and a brain in his head. I guess you could say Boomer and Vinny were pretty complete but they came to us later in their careers, seems kind of different than when you draft a guy.
junc is right, they went to six playoff teams from the conference in 1990 and went to four divisions in 2002. So from 1990-2001 there were three division winners and three Wild Cards. We were the 6 seed in 1991 with O'Brien.
Boomer sucked.(always overlooked in the Fake Spike game are BE's 2 picks) Coslet could have been a winner had he kept O'Brien. Vinny, close but he had cement feet.
There were 2 WC teams in the 80s, from 1990-2001 there were 3 WCs and 3 div winners until they realigned and went to 4 div winners and 2 wc spots.
Is that right? I know we were on the road, I guess that could have been the 5. We weren't the 6 in 2006 though?
Vinny had great feet, people forget that b/c of what he looked like after the achilles injury but in 1998 he was very mobile.
The team crumbled around Boomer after Coslet got canned. Remember in 1993 we had the #1 offense in the NFL into November before we hit a bunch of bad weather and good teams. By the time Carroll and then Kotite got here Boomer couldn't get out of town fast enough.
Since '02 all WC teams are road teams but we were the 5 seed each time squaring off against the 4th seed Chargers in '04(they lost head to head to Indy which is why they were the 4th seed and Indy 3) and the 4th seeded Pats in '06(they also lost to Indy and lost the tiebreaker so Indy was the 3 seed).
True but I always rememebr Vinny at his best in 1998. I don't know if we have ever had a better season from a QB and most of his NFL career he had good feet.
I'll buy that. For some reaason I always thought we snuck in as the 6 in 2006 and New England was the 3, but it hardly matters. I'd rather had been the 6 then.
For some reason we always seem to be the 5th seed as we were last year as well. Most people wouldn't think that b/c of how we made it.
They were both unceremiously dumped for overrated, past their prime hacks who showed up as saviors and collapsed down the stretch. Loved em both. Neither was blessed with the greatest of coaches, but that pretty much goes for almost every Jet who ever played.
pretty much It's close, but I'd say Chad played on better teams though. Kenny O on the 2002-04 teams /line may have had great results
this. I know Chad wasn't the greatest QB of all time, but I loved watching him play, especially before all the injuries.
