Damn right, couldn't agree more. Alot of people, (and here as well) thought that Rex should have kept his mouth shut about being the best etc..., but hey, looks what happened. And WHO REALLY knew that LT was going to be this good?? Honestly. I was gutted at losing TJ, but LT just adds a whole new dimension to our game. Lucky Chargers fans for having him for such a long time.
I've always wondered, could a player win both the MVP and Comeback player of the year award? I guess they can, but damn that would be impressive. Without a doubt agree with Rex, he's hat to overcome injury, a revolving door of positions in the secondary and some off the field issues. Up till now he's handled them perfectly IMO. Throw in all these so called chemistry issues we were supposed to have and he's a virtual lock. I'm still in shock over LT, I hated the move, but in cases like this I love being wrong. I might get a shitty Jet tattoo in his honor. (instead of getting a nice jet tattoo) Just to clarify
I make an honest effort to never pull the "I told you so" card, but on this one I will, if only because you specifically asked. As I said all summer, his problem was that his team completely abandoned him in terms of play design. I won't go back and look, but I'm pretty certain I said he would be at least as good as TJ was here.
Chad Pennington almost did it his first year in Miami. He was runner-up for the League MVP I think. Couldn't agree more about LT. He has been hands down our MVP this season. Of all the offseason moves the Jets made, this is the one that made me say "meh...". I figured, if anything he would allow us to avoid wearing out Shonn Greene and maybe give us another option in the short yardage passing game. He has obviously done so much more and seems to be a fantastic clubhouse presence. Tanny is looking like a genius on this one.
It's hard to say anyone could call how good LT would perform... with this offensive line if the Jets had Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson on the team very few people would predict they'd be averaging over 5 ypc... that's an unbelievable number for any running back. If he still has that number at the end of the year then this is going to be a fantastic year.
I knew he'd be good, but I had no idea he'd get the chance he's had. I was dead wrong when I told people he wouldn't get enough touches to be in the running for Comeback Player of the Year.
I knew LT would be an asset, I just didn't think he'd become the undisputed #1 RB for the Jets. Hell, I didn't even think our RB situation would be better this season than it was LAST season.
Good point. But that was good enough for 2nd place (tie). It was pretty much Peyton Manning and everybody else.
What's crazy is his numbers are amazing even though I feel like we're using our running backs backwards. If Shonn was pounding the shit out of the defense for the first half and then you let LT crush the holes after they're gassed I think his numbers would be even higher.
Yes. I've spent all season wondering why we are doing things this way round, and wondering why we aren't letting the much younger, more bruising Greene pound the DL into submission before sending in LT to run through tired defences. I suppose that's why Rex is a football genius and I'm not.
Well the funny thing is, is thats exactly what is happening. Both LT and Greene are stretching and pounding away, but come the 4th Greene is alot fresher and puts the hurt on the D. I cannot imagine what that must be like for a tired D.
LT being in MVP contention is a bit over the top. Comerback player of the year absolutely, On the ballet for offensive player of the year, ok, maybe. But MVP I dont see it. The guys going to finish the season with under 1500 yards and under 15 tds. (unless of course he really racks it up vs the Bills/Lions later this year) He needed almost 2k yards and 30 tds to win it in 2006. Hell Chris Johnson never even stood a shot last year after all he did as well. I just think the NFL is so biased towards QBs especially with the MVP award. That said the guy is an absolute lock to win comeback player of the year... Unless of course Mark Sanchez wins it.
I don't think he should be MVP either, but Chris Johnson's team didn't make the playoffs last year. A team's success is a factor in MVP voting.
I loved the LT move and I said this when we got him and posted it here on my old posts that San Diego could not open the running lanes for him like we can here in New York and that's exactly what's happened.
I was skeptical of the LT move. However, he passed the eye test in preseason. He has gotten better and better since, in conjunction with the Oline. He is a much better option for the Jets than TJ, no offense to him.
