Wow...some of you guys are so crazy. I love how some of you expect a perfect game call every single game. That's just ridiculous. There is not a single offensive coordinator in the league that is going to call a perfect game every week. And I love how some of you are acting like if we ran the ball it would have been a guaranteed touchdown, lighten up guys, we won the game and no one is perfect.
You guys make it seem like those plays were doomed and like the Jets had plenty of time to fuck around with. Sanchez missed two touchdown passes in those 3 plays. Rain or not those are throws that should be made. Sanchez would tell you that himself.
In the first half Brian Schottenheimer called 24 pass plays on 2nd and 3rd down and 2 runs. How could that possibly have been effective play-calling? If Sanchez throws a pick or two in that sequence, which is actually not that far out of the realm of possiblity given the down and yards situations the Jets were throwing on, the Jets likely lose the game. This is another of those head-scratching games where Schotty really was out to lunch for the entire game. He has like one or two of these a year, and really you can't afford that out of your offensive coordinator. The OC is supposed to promote the offense not shut it down periodically. Edited because I counted wrong. It was 24 pass plays on 2nd and 3rd down and 2 runs. He ran the ball on first down 12 times and passed 6, not including the spike play at the end of the half. It was just terrible playcalling and it lead directly to the Jets having only 3 field goals at half time when they should have been up double-digits by then.
Minny has the fifth ranked D in the league. They were in the Conf Champ game in January. The conditions were awful. The Jet O scored 22 points. The Jets won the game. How is that "you can't afford that out of your offensive coordinator"?
I could be wrong but I seem to remember the Jets having something like 30 seconds on the clock and no timeouts at that point in the game. What else were they supposed to do?
I just checked the play-by-play. This is what it says before Sanchez's 3 failed TD attempts at the end of the half. Timeout #3 by NYJ at 00:34.
you guys love to hate on Schotty. Vikings have awesome run D and suspect secondary so why wouldnt he let Keller go out 1v1 or Edwards when thats been working the last 3 weeks. If we kept running it and didnt get in then what would you be saying
Terrible weather conditions we pass 40+ times when our running game is averaging 5 YPC..... It was obvious the gameplan was to show off our new toy in the first half but you could tell due to the weather it just wasn't there. But instead of going okay its time to ground and pound it being up two scores we continue to throw... Finishing with 10+ more pass attempts than run attempts with how the weather was last night is mind boggling to me but we won so whatever. Greene should of had 10 more touches last night, he was averaging almost 6 YPC
Run the ball, get stopped short, stand around screaming at one of the Williams to stop laying on top of the ball and then spike the ball with 8 seconds left in the half and kick a field goal anyway.
He was averaging almost 6 YPC after the big touchdown run. He didn't look good in the first half at all.
I must admit, I was absolutely disgusted w/ the play calling @ the eog. And i can't believe i'm saying this but, after rewatching the game and reading some of these posts I may have to have a change of heart. 1- You play to win the game, now this goes both ways. U can play the clock which ABSOLUTELY gives Favre another shot or You go for 1st downs and actually WIN THE GAME. 2- There is such a JETS mentality engrained in some JETS fans that you are killing Shotty because you thought if Favre got the ball , we would lose. No faith in the Defense, nothing...only 1 outcome, the JETS would LOSE. Fact is, there were 2 catchable 1st downs to finish the game but our #1 & #2 WR's in crunch time, dropped the ball. Yeah, Playing it safe...no thanx. You play to win the game. but next time Shotty, run the ball
on 2nd and 11 we shoulda passed but we hike dthe ball too early. sanchez shoulda hiked teh ball with 2 seconds left so the play ended at 1:59 stopping for the 2 minute warning no matter what. instead we hiked the ball with 2:07 left and the play was incomplete at the 2:04 mark giving them essentially an extra clock stoppage.
this. People love to use hindsight to kill Schotty when the fact is hes a good O coordinator that most teams would take in a second.
I thought Shotty called a good game. He can't help it if there are a lot of bad drops. If Braylon, Santonio and Keller could hang onto balls that were in their hands, Shotty would be a hero and the game would have been a blowout.
Because he put pressure on his defense all game by doing things that DID NOT WORK in his playcalling? The Jets had great field position in the first half and got 3 FG's out of it. In the second half the Viking nearly beat the Jets, because the offense allowed them to hang around the entire game by doing incompetent things like running on 1st Down and passing on 2nd and 3rd downs. The inclement weather apparently made no difference in Schotty's game plan and so the Jets wound up with an offense grasping at straws the entire game until they finally broke a TD late, ON THE GROUND where they should have been for most of the game. 9 of their points came on drives when they started the drive in Minnesota territory and all they could get out of it was a FG, mainly because they were passing the ball in the rain instead of trying to put together a mixed offensive package that had a chance of succeeding. If Sanchez throws one pick last night, and several near picks occurred, the Jets likely lose that game. So Schotty luck-sacked into calling 45+ passng plays on a miserable rainy night and not losing the Jets the game as a result. The Vikings also called a lot of passes, but not as many as the Jets proportionately and they were down the whole game and trying to run Peterson unsuccessfully. They were forced to throw the ball. The Jets were not, and we're just lucky that we don't have another inexplicable brain-fart loss on our hands at this point to go with the several Schotty has already bestowed upon us over the years.
First half?? He might have had 2 carries in the first half?? There was also another point I believe late in the 3rd quarter he ripped off a nice 6 yard run and then I believe a 10 yard run back to back and he got pulled.... Greene was running well he just didn't get many touches but when he did he made the best of them. You give Greene 10 more touches, I think he goes over 100 with another TD. Vikings run D couldn't handle any of the cutback or stretch runs, if you ran into the gut of course the williams bros are going to kill you.
Playcalling and clock management was just piss poor and it could've cost the game. Against a better team it might have.
