I've been noticing it all season long, it's just not there. 90% of the time he underthrows the receiver. There have been countless times when a Jets receiver has the step on a CB and he has to slow down and turn back to find the ball allowing the CB to close the gap easily. There have been maybe 2 passes he's overthrown deep but most of them are underthrown like crazy. I wonder how much time they spend in practice working on this because I think it's by far his weakest area. He wasn't great last night in any facet but for the most part his short and intermediate passes have been deadly accurate. Until he can improve his deep ball accuracy and strike up some big plays (especially now that they have Edwards and Holmes side by side) we won't know the true potential of this offense.
Holmes fucked up at least on one deep ball throw. Fuck it what I learned is that our team doesn't know what catching a football means when the ball is wet.
Agree 100%. It may be nitpicking at 4-1, but so far this season, he's under-throwing guys who with a step or two on a DB on long balls. If he starts to get a feel for those passes, this offense could get scary.
What other deep ball did Holmes miss? I only remember him getting thrown to deep twice. Once was towards the end of the game where he was overthrown by 5 yards and the other one was in the 1st half I believe when he had a step on the CB, had to stop, turn his body sideways and try to catch the ball falling backwards on his back with the CB right there because the ball was poorly underthrown.
What's odd is the great catch Braylon made when it was pouring there at the end of the half. I don't know how he saw the ball, much less hung on to it.
He's frustrating - he caught that one but missed the one intentionally under thrown to him that hit him square in the chest.
Holmes had 3 deep attempts. First one was off a playaction down the left sideline. If sanchez throws it to the corner of the endzone Holmes is wideopen but instead underthrows it and leads to the middle of the field which gave the defender time to play catch up. 2nd is the one you described where he beat his man, had to stop turn his body and just couldn't haul it in. Really tough catch. 3rd holmes just flat out burned everyone and Sachez overthrew him out of the endzone and didn't give him a chance.
There were a lot of drops yesterday in that game. And big passes in the rain aren't exactly easy for a 2nd year QB. I'm sure that will improve over the next couple of years. BE had 2 big drops, both for 1st down, the bigger one coming at the 2min warning. Holmes had 3 or 4 drops, passes that hit him in the numbers and the ball popped out. The ball is wet and it was a freaking downpour at times. The WRs need to get a pool together for some stick-um. I don't fault Mark. Yes he was off the mark (no pun) but it wasn't terrible. Besides I'd rather him fuck up his efficiency stats than toss an INT.
Can't judge based on last night's game. It was pouring rain and the ball was wet. Also, the Vikes D-Backs did a great job of covering the Jets receivers.
Not really, no. The WRs were open A LOT last night. Whether Mark was just off (he flat out missed some wide open guys), weather causing drops, whatever, the issue was anything but good coverage by Minnesota.
by my count braylon had 2 drops, holmes had 2, cochery and keller each had 1. It had to be the rain, thats all i can think of
I don't think his deep ball accuracy is terrible,but it's not great. He has shown he can be very accurate with the deep ball. Enough so that I think that it has to be accounted for. Edwards and Holmes both has deep balls that hit them in the numbers and fall to the ground. Idk how often you expect those deeps shot to work, but he did give the WR chances and they didn't make the best out of all of them.
By taking the long shots down the field, you open up the intermediate passing game. Even if they miss, they need to continue to take those shots. As Sanchez continues to hit the intermediate passes, eventually those deep receivers will get more open.
I totally agree that we need to keep taking the shots downfield regardless but in order for us to go on a deep playoff run I think we need to have to the ability to convert those long passes on a more consistent basis. There is going to come a time when we're playing against teams (Steelers and Ravens come to mind) where long sustained drives are hard to come by. You need to be able to convert on the favorable 1-on-1 matchups you get from time to time.
Since when is pointing out a fact complaining? If you want to be part of a message board that posts nothing but praise of every aspect of your team that's great, good luck. This is reality and we are well within our right to talk about the many facets of our team (good or bad) after a loss or a win.

I disagree... I think his deep pass has been pretty on target but there's been solid defensive play or the ball was juggled.
Name me one deep ball (35+ yards in the air) that Sanchez hit his receiver perfectly in stride this season?
