I like how they acknowledged the trap game and focused on not being that team today. There were tons of close calls for the Saints and Falcons. The Jets made sure they didn't fall victim to the same problem. The Saints were playing a divisional opponent as well, and they were at home. I know their defense had tons of injuries, but I don't think that game should have been that close.
I was hoping someone would mention this, football has and always will be about matchups, this is probably the most talented group of guy's we have had in a while, it is going to be really hard for teams to defend all the playmakers. As long as the OL stays healthy the potential for this team is scary. I love the balance that the team has been displaying.
I think it was easier for the Jets to avoid the trap game because so many of the Jets were pissed at their performances last year against the Bills. Edwards still is trying to find the ball that hit him in the facemask last year The ground game had 300 yards on the ground and we somehow lost Sanchez throws a handfull of ints he wanted to avenge The defense managed to choke away that victory allowing Lee evans to score. schotty for not running even more last year Rex for not finding a way to adjust and im sure many more not off the top of my head. This game was important to lots of jets to avenge their disasterous play against the bills last year. Plus this was a division game, and LT still is trying to prove himself here in NY. This coupled with the need to avoid the trap game to maintain the lead in the division gave the Jets the "kick their ass" mentality we saw displayed today.
These last few games have really made all those OMG THE SKY IF FALLING posts after week one seem so silly, haven't they? I told you there wasn't anything to get too worked up about with the offense. heheh. We'll need to see how the offense firing on all cylinders handles an elite defense. That will be the true test.
This is a very good, perhaps great team right now. Who can you really say is better then us in the AFC at this point? The Ravens have looked good, as have the Steelers, but I think that playing our best we could beat either. Let's take a step back, to have 3 divisional games in the first four and to go 3-0 is pretty amazing, regardless of the team. If we have 3 very good games and one bad game every quartile of the season we go 12-4, which I am completely alright with.
I agree 100%! When you go up against a strong D like ours it can only make you better! Now think about the potential when we get all of the D healthy....crazy sick!
regarding the OP, I think Rex said in his presser that they didn't have a single pre-snap penalty today, which is awesome. No false starts, illegal motions, etc.
Don't know if you were watching the post game from the Skins vs. Eagles, Jimmy Johnson, and Howie said 3 best teams in AFC, Baltimore,Steelers and Jets! No mention of Indy or S.D. I loved it!
Watching the Jets in that opener, way too many penalties were called one sided against you guys. I saw the Ravens get the same treatment again today. Michael Oher was false starting the entire game and not getting called for it. You guys will be just fine.
Just good to see the Jets get themselves under control CS included. No more crazy premotion movement and just one blown coverage on the secondary all day. Although it was the Bills, that team hung 30 on the Patriots so yeah, they can still score pts. Next week will be a much better test of this team as I expect the Jets to come out focused, but not overly hyped up. I really love the reaction (or lack thereof) by the team to this onesided victory. No bragging, no bullshit, damn near silent. They should adapt more of that persona as the season goes on. Just become silent assassins when they win and let the media try to figure out why..
yes, I was very pleased to see the discipline. I thought it might be a problem before the season started ( http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=59023&highlight=waterloo ) and was NOT heartened in week one, but we've been doing better and better since. If we can stay dialed in, the sky is the limit.
