great bump. i remember being infuriated by revis' lack of awareness his rookie year.

it takes about a year for these players to get it all up to speed, technique and all.

I think the big difference between the 2 is that Revis was a damn good tackler, even as a rookie. I am not saying Wilson can't tackle or is afraid, just Revis was that good at it.

Coverage wise in their first few games their coverage is similar. They both played too far off the line and didn't look back on the ball...... both easily correctable with experience and the game slowing down.

This does remind me of wilson's play at the moment. Though not as talented as revis wilson has a lot to learn as a cb. Just as revis, wilson has been switched around from slot to the outside and back again. He does have the physical talented to be a great cb but it'll take time. Wilson knows by now he will be a targeted every game multiple times. He just needs that confidence in himself to realize he needs to make a play because he's going to have many chances to do so. I'm not worried about wilson right now, i mean at the time of a game i want to pull my hairs when hes playing....but its growing pains!

Agreed. I'm sure Wilson will be a very good CB in 1 to 2 years time. His tackling hasn't been bad either. I'll hold off on crowning him a future HOFer though just because there are similarities to Revis' rookie season.

Im taking it the other way........

That Wilson isn't bad at all for this stage of his career, not that he is a sure fire HOF'er. I don't think anyone would mistake that.....

Wilson has showed he can tackle.

I don't remember him whiffing yet and he's not afraid to hit people.

You could always dig up the ones where he says similar things about Lowery to deflate a little.

Just don't go retrieve all the bs I was wrong about because it will take you a few weeks.

Wilson was always a great tackler in college. The guy never shies away from hits. As everyone else said, he just has to learn to turn his head around which is something that could be said for every rookie.

I thought I remembered this thread when I saw it on the front page. We certainly did get to see what happened when they allowed Revis into tighter coverage

I don't see too many comparisons between Wilson and Revis as rookies. Revis shown very good man coverage skills early. Wilson has shown very poor man skills thus far. He face guards and does not play the ball. He seems to be a lot more comfortable in zone or off coverage where he can keep his eyes in the backfield while keeping the WR in front of him. When he plays off, he tends to break on the ball quickly.

By face guards, you mean he doesn't look back? Lol that is the same thing Revis did.

    Nice try though.......

Nice cherry pick. First Revis did not face guard nearly as much as Wilson has. Second that really was not the point I was trying to make. Most CBs face guard out of panic when they are beat or caught out of position; that's almost expected from a rookie. The bigger issue is the lack of press coverage skills his shown thus far. He is often times caught flat footed and he gets completely turned around trying to transition out of his back pedal. Revis did not look like that his rookie year. To compare Wilson's struggles to Revis's in 07 is to diminish how polished Revis was coming into the league. I personally feel that good press coverage CBs come into the league with those tools. You either have it or you don't. I think Wilson is a good CB whose skill sets do not mesh well with our current scheme in the secondary which predominantly centers around playing press man coverage.

We'll see but that's my take. This can be bumped in a few days, weeks, months or years when Kyle Wilson becomes a great press coverage CB. I'll be happy to take all the ridicule for being wrong in my assessment.

Awesome bump, just shows it's still way to early to go and make judgments on Wilson.

Wilson is going through some typical rookie struggles, he's not going to be Revis but you can see ability where he can be a quality starting corner in this league sooner rather than later.
