Yes it is a slimy marketing whore tactic but I still respect that they are showing interest in hispanic heritage. Our QB is mexican, I mean a mexi-can!

You've just contradicted yourself completely. You call it a business tactic to attract more viewers right after asking whether they expect to draw a Spanish audience? Why can't you just take it at face value, as a nod of acknowledgement to the NFL's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and one which costs no-one anything? It's no different to putting Christmas idents on a channel. Fuck, it would be nice if everyone's life was so easy that that's worth getting bothered about.

Hispanic heritage day in Miami is only Monday through Sunday, from the hours of 12:01am to 11:59pm

I have no problem with celebrating Spanish heritage, but there has to be a better way to show it than to slap a few Spanish words on the screen and force me to listen to Enrique Iglesias. Its kind of half-assed. Everything is so PC now. I don't think people have a problem with the idea, its the way it was done. That being said, I kind of just ignored it, didn't really bug me too much.

Henne's forehead looks like a taco does that qualify him as Hispanic?

For once I agree with you. I didn't care at all.

When is samoan heritage month? I'd like to celebrate Sione Pouha's heritage? How about Italian heritage month for Mike Devito?

I think it's in the form of a Head and Shoulders commercial.

I didn't really contradict myself but I can see why you thought that. I personally said it was stupid and a bad marketing plan. That doesn't mean that the people at NBC/NFL agree with me. I'm under the assumption that they threw the Spanish titles and commercials in to attract a Spanish audience, not to celebrate heritage.

I have no problem with celebrating culture and diversity, but showing me Jets de Nueva York and a Spanish commercial here and there doesn't make me think any more fondly of the Hispanic community. In fact, the people at the bar laughed at the Spanish stuff that was thrown in.

Well, it's obvious that the Jets did that to attract more Spanish-speaking viewers. The game was also broadcast on Univision.

I think my biggest problem with it was that it sucked.

I can totally agree with this, We know what it is...The fact that the NFL only has a hispanic day tells you this is all business.

But that's where it gets sticky.
Let's be honest. People aren't/weren't bitching about the "Business Tactic", they're bitching because it's "Hispanic".
I'm not gonna sit here and cry the "R" word but when you read people constantly bitching about it, it's natural to wonder why the fuk it bothers them so much.

Funny, I'd have more respect for someone who tells me they are racist or a biggot more than people hiding behind behind an excuse or...shall we say, a political party.
Not saying I wouldn't wanna slap em though... :)

I remember a thread last year where people were upset they moved a game time because of a Jewish holiday.
They weren't upset that it was a Jewish holiday, they were upset that the gametime affected their lives because of scheduling....but people still attacked them...

This didn't affect anyone in anyway, so why the hostility?

I understand, but I want to clarify. When you say hostility and racism, are you referring to me or people in general?

See the post above yours, Tee. It was a lame, sad move. Want more Hispanic fans? Do community outreach. Don't put a couple of things in Spanish, get pseudo-Hispanic performers, and call it a day. It was a shit effort.

Thank you. You said it a lot more succinctly than I did.

No, people in the gamethread who were bitching...
Did you read my post Iggs?
I agree, it was a tactless business move.
I was just poitning out the people bitching so much about it for no reason...
IOW, they didn't bitch @ the NFL, they Bitched at the spanish part of it.

  20. I have no issue with it, though it did feel like a Mets game.

But what about Oktoberfest? This is the time of year to celebrate Munich style.
