One of the problems with the game was no. 20 was missing. This was a Thomas Jones type of game. I am beginning to believe we are paying for making some premature decisions concerning the release of Jones and Faneca. Green may not have been ready to take over and were struggling at guard. I believe things will improve, just wondering how long it will take.

we need Greene to be a guy who goes head fucking first, and hurts people...while not coughing the ball up.

then have LT come in and be a fancy little fairy.

Thomas Jones was that guy we need Greene to be.

To be honest though Thomas Jones could very well be through, and I support him not being here.

I agree with this, we wouldn't have LT without releasing Jones and LT is much better than Jones.

That said, I think we'd be better off with Leon Washington than McKnight.

Missing Jones? LT was more than fine Monday night. Seeing as we could not have both Jones and LT I'll take Tomlinson all day long. More speed and a better pass catcher. Jones is 32, if Greene fails to replace him then we still would need another very soon, because he's nearing the death knell for a back in this league. Jones put up a whopping 3.6 a Rush in KC the other night. Its not as if he's lighting the world on fire.

How exactly did we struggle at guard?

Smith's big 22 yard run? Over left Guard.

Our average run for the night was for 5.5 yards.

Slauson gave up a sack when left one on one vs Nagata, one of the most dominant DT's in the game. Do you forget so quickly how bad Faneca was in pass protection last year?

Our offense struggled mightly, but by no means was it the sole fault of Slauson or Tomlinson. Quit trying to stir up shit with silly ass posts like this.

to be honest i thought he was still on the Jets while watching the game...with all those 2 yard gains ya know? I loved TJ but he was "Two-yard Thomas" to me.

Yes, but come 3rd quarter those 2 yard gains turned into blasts right up the middle. We need Shonn Greene to be that kinda player.

edit: BTW I would take Tomlinson over T Jones 2010.

We cut TJ and Faneca for the same reason, money.

And now we have a glaring weakness at LG, a lack of depth at RB, and a leadership void.

People doubted LT, but now that he is here, and has so far proven people wrong (preseason and mnf), I am glad TJ is no longer a Jet. TJ would fall flat at about the two yards from the scrimmage. Had no quick moves to dodge the first defender. Our OL made him, not the other way around.

Money wasn't the only reason. It was their age. We wanted to go with the young blood. Slauson gave up one sack to Ngata. I wouldn't be surprised if Ngata had two sacks beating Faneca. Faneca was done as a pass blocker. TJ played well, but RBs regress at a very steep rate once they are in their 30s.

LT should start cause he allows the offensive to be more dynamic with his running, pass catching and pass protecting. Then have Greene punish tired defenses late.

I don't know what you're talking about, Thomas Jones definitely played on MNF last week.

I think we are going to be better off w/SG & LT than we would have been w/TJ & SG. I loved TJ, but I think he is kind of done as a feature back. As for Faneca - its a fair point, but AF was not good in pass protection last season. Guys get older and you need to replace them. Slauson & Vlad are gonna be the future here. Got to keep that in mind. We are building for long term success.

I know what you're saying, but that fancy little ferry has looked a football player. Greene has looked decent in two games in his career. Neither was he the feature back. I'm willing to give him time but this dancing and not running over people shit has to stop.

cmon guys...thomas jones? he can't catch out of the backfield and he's not an overly bruising runner like greene is. he doesn't run people over. he's a vision runner that gets what he can get. he's a smart runner. if he can get 3 he'll take it, he doesn't have the speed nor the power to turn nothing into a big play.

the biggest thing TJ does was stay healthy, carry the ball a lot, and not fumble. greene just had one of those freaky fumbles. he ran into his own offensive lineman. he had both hands on the ball he just wasn't ready for contact.

as long as injuries or fumbling isn't an issue we won't miss TJ at all. LT is an improvement. he looks really good and he can catch the ball.

So the Jets needed a RB that goes down at the first sign of contact?
