Sure I was disappointed in the lack of offense overall last night. But that isn't what made me most frustrated. What I couldn't figure out is why the coaching staff wouldn't put Greene back in the game. He fumbled twice. We get it. Greene is our starting back, the face of our ground and pound rushing attack. With Greene you get a 4 yard run..3 yard run.. fumble(jk).. 5 yard run.. 25 yard run.. and so on. You have to keep feeding him. I really think the staff should have put him back in and let him prove himself on the field. Benching someone just drains all the energy out of him. I don't blame Greene for looking reluctant when he came back in for one play. I would have benched him for a couple drives, making him think he's done for the day and whatnot. Then put him back in, showing him that the team still has faith in him. And Runningback Coach Anthony Lynn.. On hard knocks, you saw him yell at all the backs, saying stuff like "Do not fucking fumble". I heard someone say on here, that Lynn should maybe preach grip techniques instead of just screaming at them. When I saw that I had figured that Lynn must have obviously preached techniques all during their practices. Which is why he was getting so mad at the fumbleitis. Now I'm not so sure he has taught them anything about holding onto the ball.
Greene deserved to be benched. RBs can't fumble the ball, simple as that. If you want to point to one play that cost us the game, Greenes fumble is high up on the list. He needs to figure out a way to hold onto the ball, or he will ride the bench.
As the fan of a rival team, I'm begging the Jets to keep Greene on the bench and continue to feature LT. You can just see it when he gets the ball, he has that burst that LT doesn't have anymore. You have to start him and get him 20 touches. If he continues to fumble, you take action. I thought benching Greene was extremely stubborn and detrimental to the outcome of the game on the part of the Jets staff.
Then I have to put that on the coach. You're a coach, teach him. It's not the military you don't have to break him down
The fumble Greene lost was especially odd because he had two hands on the ball, and it somehow came out when he ran into another Jet....
It seems as if the Jets are SO concerned with not turning it over that they're willing to sacrifice any and all offensive production. It's a fundamental change that needs to happen. We can't play fucking scared on offense.
I was not happy that SG was benched either. Really felt he could have helped us in the game. Tomlinson did well but SG could have helped out.
They need to do to Greene what the Giants did to Tiki Barber when he had fumbleitis. Turns out Barber completely changed the way he secured the ball and it worked for him.
Greene has to take ownership of that ball when he gets it. If not, he will not play. I love Greene, but still think he's green behind the ears.
This is so true. We don't play scared on D, no prevent bs, why play scared on offense? I was surprised that Schotty seemed so concerned with letting Sanchez loosen up. I understand it was a close game and a pick 6 would have been very bad but you have to let the kid play a little bit.
jeez now fumbles are the coaches fault too. you fumble twice, you hit the bench. Besides, he looked like he was scared shitless last night. The play where Sanchez threw to him out of the backfield that he blatantly dropped......camera got his face right before the snap, he looked like, "shit don't throw it to me"!.not a good start for him.
Yeah, I agree with that observation. It just goes to show how different the mentalities are between the offense and defense. Make one mistake on offense, and they go into a shell. Cromartie makes a mistake with every breath he takes on defense, and they continue to hammer away regardless. Oddly enough, both mentalities ended up hurting the Jets yesterday.
Guys, Shonn Greene was NOT benched. Rex said so in the press conference. The RB rotation just made it look that way and maybe the fact they could never get on the offense on the field.
The gameplan was right for yesterdays game, the execution on the other hand was awful. Everyone expected a tight defensive battle with the team on the winning end of the turnover battle winning the game. The unexpected was how undisciplined the team was, if not for that we win the game, regardless of any offensive output.
I got the "shell shocked" impression as well. On that play I thought don't go to Green this play ease him back in. and he drops a pass he should have had. The offense needs to come together.
I hope last night was an aberration and they just pretend like it didn't happen with Greene. They should pound him early and often next week and get him going. The Pats aren't nearly as tough against the run as the Ravens are.
