Definitely rather have Woodhead over Warren but didn't Rex say on Hard Knocks that Woodhead hadn't secured his spot because he wasn't good on ST?
I think you're thinking of Clowney. Last I heard in a press conference Rex said Woodhead could do *everything* we ask him to do.
What does Woodhead do on teams? All I remember is him missing two huge tackles against Miami last year.
its possible woodhead has improved this offseason, also i believe that woodhead isnt bad on kickoff coverage, but he definately doesnt belong on outside contain if last year means anything
Just don't ask Woodhead to contain on the end on kickoffs. I believe Westoff concurred that putting him in that position was a mistake last year.
He's 5'7, with no strength, no moves, and he's lost all of his speed when he injured his knee a few years back. I also believe that he cost the Jets 2 KR TD's in the Dolphin/Ginn game. He's a bum.
I guess that's why he's making the team then. :breakdance: Woodhead is 5'9" not 5'7" You lack true analysis. A bum is someone without a job or someone who watches Jets games instead of plays them. Which is 100% of the forum posters here. Let's look at a few things that Rex has said about Woodhead in recent days: On what he attributes Danny Woodhead’s success to… He’s just got guts and heart. He’s short. It’s funny, but literally if he were five inches taller, there’s no telling what this guy would be. But he’s not. He’s still got God-given gifts and talents and he makes the most of them. Yesterday he did a great job covering punts. It’s like “That’s a heck of a job, Woodhead.” He came down there, found the guy that was running, goes back in there and puts his face in it. Nobody is ever going to question his courage and his toughness. http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/19/rex-ryan-says-hes-disappointed-in-dungy/ On how important this game is for David Clowney… I think it’s important for all those receivers obviously. There are some jobs up for grabs and we’ll see who takes them. We had [Danny] Woodhead working some receiver today, so he’s working as a running back and receiver. To be honest with you, he had a great practice today. So there is another guy. We’re trying to give guys opportunities. This game is going to be big. On how much does it help Danny Woodhead that he can play both running back and wide receiver… I think that anytime that you can wear a lot of hats that helps you and the fact that he can go on special teams. That’s definitely a plus. http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/08/31/transcript-rex-ryan-8-30/
If we were hit with a rash of injuries at either RB or WR, Danny is a guy that can fill in at either #3 position. He takes up 1 roster space instead of 2. Him over Clowney and Washington was almost a no-brainer at this point.
Not too confident with Woodhead and McKnight as the backups behind Greene and Tomlinson. Can you really see either getting significant time if Greene or Tomlinson goes down? Sanchez better be ready to throw it this year.
Come on, how many teams have depth where you'd expect to see little drop-off between 1/2 and 3 on the depth chart? If you want another Greene or LT as our #3 I'm sorry to break the news to you, we don't have 'em. If Green and LT go down- yes, we're probably running on empty. If Brick goes down...If Sanchez goes down, if Revis and Cromartie both go down, if Harris and Scott both go down...Seeing a trend here? I say keep "The Little F*cker" or "White Chocolate."
I am saying either/or, not both. Look around the league at other situations better than the Jets. Cowboys have three solid backs, Ravens can go Rice, than McGahee, then McClain. Hell, the Bills have Spiller, Jackson and Lynch. The Pats have Taylor, Morris and Maroney. I am just pointing out that the Jets are thin at that spot. And for a team that likes to run, that is a shaky setup. Especially with McKnight fumbling left and right. I would feel better if Washington was still on the roster. and I meant Chauncey by the way. Leon is not coming back obviously.
That's a great point except we have two starting caliber full backs that can smash the shit out of LBs. So you can throw both of 'em in there and have one open up holes for the other. I'm sure as a rook, Conner may have some fumble-itis, but he can always open up holes for TRich carrying. Its unlikely that we would lose both. TJ was hurt in the latter part of the year and that's why Greene was carrying the load. If its to survive one game, Woodhead would step in as the #3 RB. Next game Chauncy would be activated and we'd still have 2 top level fullbacks. I think we are good. Plus I am sure there are a couple of guys out on the waiver wire if necessary. I do believe Lendale White is out of a job currently...
As much as I have had fun bashing Danny Woodhead, I have to say that I'd rather see him at the third RB spot than McKnight (I'd rather see Chauncey Washington at that spot right now than either of them, actually), and he's listed on the official site's depth chart as backup to Cotchery. And to tell you the truth, I'd rather see Woodhead at that spot than Clowney.
I think McKnight will be getting a chance to prove himself with mop-up duty this year until he can get his feet under him and get used to the NFL. Unless of course there are major injuries at RB. Let's hope none of these guys need to play in meaningful spots.
I was all for Clowney and against Woodhead but I think Hard Knocks has converted me to the Woodhead bandwagon as well... if the fact is that Clowney underachieves and Woodhead overachieves then you go with the overachiever any day of the week.
