Ok, i'm curious to see how you guys feel about the possibility that we may only be able to keep 1 of these 3 guys after this season and who you feel that player should be. Lets assume all 3 have productive seasons which do you think would be more valuble to keep; Braylon Edwards Santonio Holmes Antonio Cromartie Maybe we are able to keep 2 but with Harris' deal due and the new Revis deal coupled with new deals with Brick & Mangold i'm not sure how things would go with the new CBA?
Cromartie and Holmes Re-sign Holmes to a long term deal and use the franchise tag on Cromartie. David Harris should get a new deal before Cromartie or Edwards. Holmes is more important though...especially if he lives up to his potential here.
If Holmes played with a passing team like the Colts or Saints and he would probably walk into the hall of fame. He's one of the most talented receivers I've ever seen.
That's why I said we assume they all had a productive season for us. Do you think Wilson's performance comes into play in keeping Cro?
Holmes and Harris, then draft or sign a nickel corner if Cromartie's tag is too high. I'd love it if Edwards carries a lower price tag which would enable us to keep 3 out of 4. He's stated that he loves being here and has never felt as comfortable in a locker room. I don't think he gets the production necessary for a brutal contract this season, so it's possible that we could get him for a decent number.
I don't think so. As long as we get production out of low cost safeties like Pool, Smith, Leonhard, and Ihedigbo, we'll be able to pump a lot of money into the corner position. Kyle Wilson is the perfect fit at nickel. I'm not sure Antonio Cromartie will ask for a HUGE deal like every seems to think. He's in an excellent place here - the pressure is off with Revis playing across from him and he's playing in a scheme that he loves. He may opt to take a smaller contract to stay in New York because Ryan and this staff can get the best out of him. I don't think we'll have a problem keeping players here - a lot of these guys want to play for Rex Ryan.
The franchise tag on Cromartie isn't going to be too friendly next year. I don't know that I'd want that much money committed to the position, even in Rex's defense.
Not answering the question here... but I'm expecting Edwards to surprise everyone and outplay Holmes in the games that Holmes is in this year. Holmes is going to be very good, but I think Edwards is going to solidify himself as the #1 and the most dangerous receiver on the Jets roster.
I agree Holmes is extremely talented. But I also think Edwards is exceptionally talented himself. He's never had a pro bowl QB besides one year.. The one year he did have Anderson in a pro bowl form, he exploded. His ONLY problem are the drops. Im expecting it not to be a problem this year, although he might have a few handful drops. I would like to keep all three of these, but I think we keep two and lose one.
I hope your right here. I think Cro could flourish in our scheme. If we are able to keep him around for a few years this defense is goign to be sick. I agree about keeping Holmes over Edwards. The Beard may have the size, but Santonio has a complete skill set and does everything on the very top end of what you could hope for out of a wideout.
I think Holmes looks like a keeper so far and if I had to choose between him and Braylon I think Holmes would get the nod. Off topic - how long before Leonhard needs a big new contract?
Leonhard only signed a 3 year deal, so his contract is up next season. I don't know that he'll necessarily get a big contract, but it'll certainly average more than the roughly $2 million per season he's getting right now.
He signed last offseason so he'll be a free agent after next season. I assume that was what you were saying.
Settle. Down. Now. One of the most aggressive statements Ive heard on here in a long time. Worth logging in and commenting for. He has so much work to do before the hall of fame is even a thought.
