Sorry if this was already posted somewhere. According to Rex's news conference right now on ESPN. He said T-Rich was back and Brian Jackson waived.
Beautiful.. i knew this couldn't have been a permanent thing.. however, it did have me thinking that Conner was playing lights out if the FO was willing to cut TRich..
I've been away all weekend. Can someone explain to me the purpose of cutting him and then resigning him prior to week 1?
I think they thought that Brian Jackson was more likely to get picked up immediately vrs TRICH. Now that everyone has put in their waiver wire picks it's less likely that Jackson will be picked up by another team. I think it was a strategic move.
Roster manipulation. players with less than 4 years go to waivers, while veterans are immediately free agents. So rather than cut a young guy and lose him, they cut TRich and signed Revis to see who else they wanted to let go. I don't know why they needed to decide on Jackson or someone else, but they did. Now TRich is back.
I'm not a capologist, but it sounds as though a veteran with TRich's years of service in the league does not need to clear waivers when he is released, meaning he can choose where he goes vs. being limited to the team that is awarded his waiver claim. So the risk the Jets ran is that another club blew TRich away with a financial offer that exceeded what the Jets had on the table at thetime of his release. And he probably would have weighed the offering team's prospects for the year on top of the financial offer (e.g., a Bucs offer that was a couple $100k over the Jets' offer would not be as appealing).
Revis Press conference is coming up soon on www.nyjets.com They left the stream up and some dude is trying to fix the mic. It's pretty entertaining.
Ok, so my blind ass read the title as "T-rich is black" and I thought "No fucking kidding" .... Glad I opened the thread. :breakdance:
They don't want to do that, since there's a reasonable chance that they will want to release him at some point after Holmes comes back (and by waiting the contract isn't guaranteed). By re-signing Richardson they're saying that they intend for him to be on the team the entire season.
Glad to hear TRich is back... now if they could've just gotten rid of D. Coleman and kept Jackson, I'd be very happy.
