Rice will make the top 10. You can bet on that. Favre will not. I guarantee you that Baugh, Graham, Unitas, and Montana will be higher than Favre. Then there are a few others who could be ranked higher than Favre- Staubach, Elway, Marino, and Luckman. It is possible Favre won't even make the top 20 players of all-time.
Tomlinson- no Taylor- yes I betcha Taylor will make the top 10 and is going to be in the mix for the top spot.
I guess I'm letting my personnal feelings of Taylor muddy up the process. He's a piece of shit, but he was a good player. I guess he'd probly be top 15 or so, all personnal fuckups aside.
He's going to be on Show 9 or Show 10. He always rates high on these kinds of lists and since this is the ultimate list put together by the best possible football people, this list will hold more value than any others. I don't think the list will be screwy at the top. You can argue about the bottom of it till the cows come home, though. I, for one, would not have included Huff, but there he is at #93. Irvin, Strahan and Namath were on the cusp for me, so to see that they made it at the bottom of the list is fine. When you consider the top defenders, Taylor is right up there near or at the top. I don't imagine the top 10 will consist only of "skill" position players. In other words, I think we will see a few defenders in the top 10. I don't like Taylor, either, but he was an all-time great- one of the best of the very best. I also do not like O.J. Simpson but he also deserves a good rank on this list, certainly not top 10, though.
I hate the Dolphins with a passion but if they put Favre ahead of Marino that list is nothing but pure and utter bullshit. Favre is not the better QB.
It's debatable. Favre does have three league MVP awards and Marino has one. Plus, Favre broke many of Marino's records. Favre had some really bad playoff performances, but so did Marino. Marino was generally coached better than was Favre. Favre did have seven years with Mike Holmgren. He wasn't coached by any other all-time greats. Marino was coached by two top notch coaches. He was never coached by a pedestrain (see Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman with Favre) or bad head coach (see Eric Mangini with Favre). Both had great arms and always had the ability to lead their teams to comeback wins.
Well a case can be made that Favre played in a more pass happy era and had better run games to work with. There is no doubt that the last 10 years the NFL has been bombs away. So even though they were not that far apart era wise, the NFL is more pass oriented by an order of magnitude. I think I am going to stop right here because defending Dan Marino is going to make me homicidal. We can continue via PM so there is no evidence....lol
Miamipuck- Favre is ahead of Marino on the list. ________________ 100. Joe Namath 99. Michael Strahan 98. Lee Roy Selmon 97. Derrick Brooks 96. Mel Hein 95. Larry Allen 94. Lenny Moore 93. Here they are in alphabetical order- Sammy Baugh Jim Brown Dick Butkus Brett Favre Otto Graham Joe Greene Don Hutson Deacon Jones Ray Lewis Ronnie Lott Peyton Manning Joe Montana Anthony Munoz Bronko Nagurski Walter Payton Jerry Rice Barry Sanders Lawrence Taylor Johnny Unitas Reggie White
Brady ahead of Marino and Elway seems a little questionable too. I have a surprising amount of respect for Brady, but let's be real, his championships were won more so by his defense, suspect officiating and special teams than his play. Of those 3 QB's, I'd likely select Marino or Elway before Brady to QB my team. But opinions are like assholes so...
20. Brett Favre 19. Bronko Nagurski 18. Ray Lewis 17. Barry Sanders 16. Otto Graham 15. Deacon Jones 14. Sammy Baugh 13. Joe Greene 12. Anthony Munoz 11. Ronnie Lott
It is a good thing you were not game for a sig bet. You'd be sporting some sort of horrible sig right now as Taylor has made the top 10.
