I think this is fair.
I heard Steve Sabol talk about this the other morning on Sirius, he mentioned that the rankings aren't really important but are there to get people debating. Something interesting though, he said that there will be 8 current players featured on the list. I'm just gonna guess, but who could it be ... 1) Manning 2) Brady 3) LT 4) Favre 5) Ray Lewis 6) Randy Moss 7) 8) I don't really know who else to think of off the top of my head
If that is correct, then here's who I think they are- Tom Brady Brett Favre Tony Gonzalez Ray Lewis Peyton Manning Randy Moss LaDainian Tomlinson I feel confident about those seven. The eighth guy likely is one of these fellows- Dwight Freeney, Jason Taylor, Champ Bailey, Terrell Owens, or Antonio Gates. There are some others to consider- just look at the All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
He'll likely be profiled on one of the October shows. He's definitely not a top 10 all-time player. Jim Brown and Walter Payton might make the top 10. I cannot envision a third RB making the top 10.
potential others TO Ngata Reed/Polomalu Brees the media hype machine could also have youngins on there like Adrian Peterson, Darelle Revis, Patrick Willis, Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, Aaron Rodgers but hopefully i am just over looking some old guy who has been forgotten after aging. Maybe T-rich?
I mentioned Owens. He has a solid chance to make the list. Haloti Ngata has no shot at being on the list. Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu have shots at being on it, but there are roughly a dozen other active players who have legit chances of making the list. With only eight spots going to active players, according to Steve Sabol, some of these great active players are not going to make it. I highly doubt both Reed and Polamalu will make it. If one were to make it, it would definitely be Reed. As for the "media hype machine", a blue ribbon panel of football historians, former players, coaches, Hall of Fame voters, and front office personnel did the voting. The list should be pretty good. Peterson, Willis, Revis, Clark, Wayne, and Rodgers all have 0% chances of being on the list.
Maybe in your opinion. I've never seen a better player than Barry Sanders. I understand that the supposed GOAT has to be a QB, though.
Show 8 or Show 9 is right for him. Show 10 is not. Of course, it is all opinion. Even the experts who made up the voting panel are going to have opinions we do not like. Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Joe Montana, and Johnny Unitas are the four retired QBs who I think could make the top 10. Other players who could make the top 10 include Brown, Payton, Anthony Munoz, Jerry Rice, Don Hutson, Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, Merlin Olsen, Dick Butkus, Deion Sanders, Bob Lilly, Joe Greene, Bruce Smith, Deacon Jones, and Chuck Bednarik.
No Clearly, if they are featuring Joe Namath as no. 100, they don't mean "active players." EDIT: I see what you did there. Y'all are right and I'm Fridayed, my bad.
Yeah, I didn't read through the posts and I just saw a bunch of active players in Cakes' and Miami's top eight. I apologized in my edit. But more importantly... shut the fuck up, Steelers fan.
100-91 tonight Based on the commercials, I'm thinking Spike Lee will be the presenter for Joe Namath. Lee, A-Rod, Derek Jeter, Burt Reynolds and company did not vote. The non-football folks are part of the show only to talk about the players. I don't fully understand that, but that's what NFL Films chose to do. I won't quibble too much because NFL Films rarely puts out any poor work.
100. Joe Namath 99. Michael Strahan 98. Lee Roy Selmon 97. Derrick Brooks 96. Mel Hein 95. Larry Allen 94. Lenny Moore 93. Sam Huff 92. Michael Irvin 91. Fran Tarkenton
Jerry Rice and Brett Favre will likely at least make the top ten. (Rice has a chance to probably be in the top three).
