I personally don't think he will sit out a whole season in the prime of his career coming off a HOF year, I mean this guy hasn't taken a year off football since he was child honestly I don't believe he'll miss a single regular reason snap especially if Kyle Wilson plays like a beast (like I hope he does) durring preseason

I can just see Darrelle sitting there watching Hard Knocks and preseason bitting his lip, leg shaking he's so anxious to get out there

I think he'll be on the field by week 5, preferably on week 1 though. We can all pretend to 'know' what Revis is like and what his desires/motivations are but in all honestly, we don't know shit. Maybe he's in it for the money and he has no love for the game of football? Maybe it's his agent and advisors* brainwashing him? Maybe he really wants to play but is holding out for a little bit more money and signs soon? We'll find out I guess.

No way he sits out in the prime of his career w/ a potential lockout season ahead. He can't take the chance of missing two years of football. I really think at the end of the day this will get done, right up to the 11th hour. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think his agents are pushing this issue more than he is. Deep down Revis wants to play football and be back with his teammates.

He'll play, he's in a tough spot cus of the potential lockout in 2011...he holds out now two years of his prime could be lost.

He'll be back for the opener when he (his agents) accept the fact they have no leverage what so ever.

yea their should seriously be an option 4. I see him getting a new contract before the season starts.

I'm sure the Jets will give in at the end of the day.

I think hell be back week 1.

Or at the very least hell be back midseason so he can get back to form for the playoffs.

He has to know this could very well be the best chance he ever gets at winning a superbowl. With all the 1 year contracts the jets have who knows who will be back. Not to mention if he sits the whole season, it all but guarantees hes off this team. And who knows where hell end up, but does he really want to risk ending up like Asomugah and never seeing another playoff game ever again let alone a shot at a ring ?

I really hope im wrong here but with him taking advice from his uncle I can really see him sitting the whole season.

It's a shame really, of course theres a chance he could get hurt, but if he takes a decent deal now he wont have to worry about money the rest of his life.

He could sit out the whole season but if hes out a WHOLE season who in their right mind is going to give him more then Asomugha is making right now? It just makes no sense. Theres no way he'll get a bigger deal from sitting out a season then the one the Jets have offered him now after hes been out of football shape a full year.

Where is the "he will sign an extension before the season" option?

As things stand right now there seems to be an impasse, so I went with , whole season hold out. The last report we had was that both parties were worlds apart.
I really hope that Wilson steps up, to the point where we can be choosy and if needs be trade Revis. Last resort.

I expect either the Jets to give in by wk 3 if the pass D doesn't step it up, or injury.

If Jets are playing well without him, I expect Revis to come back and play for either a band aid contract or something reasonable with in $130 mil over 10 years contract. I don't expect him to miss the whole year. Hold out seems to be the agents idea, but Revis' love for the game will take over. At this point, I'd give it a 20% chance that he holds out the whole year and, of course, 80% chance he'd be back to shut down Marshall in wk 3.

Thats it in a nutshell really, how much Revis loves the game vs how much influence his agent has.
I know its a hell of a reach, but if Wilson has a great start to the season, it might also make the Revis camp re-think things.
Yeah that Marshall match-up will be just too tastey for him to miss, another top WR scalp is just too irresistible. Good point.

I really see him holding out and I think we will trade or pick up another CB just to harden the stance of the management.

Revis is a unique talent but his the team is far more important than anyone player ( unless we had Tom Brady or Peyton manning!)

If he signs before the season, it will be reported that the contract was something the Jets offered 6 months ago. If he comes back during the season, it is for his current contract. I don't see his agents allowing themselves to lose face like that so I think he's gonna be out for the full year.

In this negotiation, IMAGE is the most important factor. He wants to be looked at as the highest paid at his position, his agents want to be looked at as being able to get such a HUGE contract for their guy, and the Jets want to look like a team that will not mortgage their financial (read salary cap) future for any individual player no matter how talented. Especially one that is still under contract. The Jets simply have too many players going into contract years this season to be perceived as weak at the negotiating table.

Remember when the Jets refused to renegotiate contracts with players with 2 or more years left in their contracts? This negotiation is not only with Revis and his people but it is also a shot across the bow of ALL our current players as to how not to handle negotiations (note how D'Brick got his extension) and judging by how some of our players shut up about "Extensions" and "New Contracts," I think the message has been received.

If Revis was to accept something they were offered six months ago, it would have happened six months ago. It is obvious they want more money and they will definitely get more money than what is offered. Maybe not by a lot, but if they were concerned with "image", they will not accept what is already offered. I don't think it as much about image as it is about money though.
