The frigging chart above says it all. Revis should be thinking more along the lines of Woodson money, you know, the guy who beat him out for defensive player of the year at the same position. (we all know Revis was snubbed) The Jets would have had a good arguing angle if Rex didn't say Revis was the BEST in the league...
You can't blame Rex Ryan for this. Everyone in the fucking world knows that Darrelle Revis is the best corner in football.
We heard grumblings of $30 million/3 and $40 million/4 as 'band aid' deals. If he's seeking a long term deal at $16 million per, he's not going to take a short term at $10 million. I think the $120 mil/10 is MORE than fair, personally, and that he and/or his agents are absurd for not taking it. Uh, please read the post before the one you quoted. I said I figured he'd still have held out. I was rather clear about it. What I said was that the approach of the front office legitimized his holdout to some extent. I never said I thought he'd have happily reported if not for that approach. BTW, why does it matter what the majority of fans think about a contract negotiation?
I blame the Jets. Upon their admission of the former fact mentioned, they lost a key bargaining chip. Fueling Revis camp's fire. It's also one of two key points Revis and his agents refer back to.

The media war was a fucking joke and shouldn't have happened, but what's done is done. Both sides are apparently still talking, so hopefully a deal will be worked out by the end of pre-season.
Alright guys I've got two questions... If he holds out the entire year, how is next year going to be any easier to get a deal done? He'll still want the same contract and then he'd be a full year removed from football. I don't see the point in doing this. Does he have to play 6 games this year regardless? How does that work
Yeah I blame the Jets...assuming the reports are true. They made mistakes and these are nothing which haven't been discussed: 1) They approaced Revis and said they want to re-negotiate. 2) They said he was the best corner in the league and he was snubbed D-MVP 3) They then said "Well a player with 3 years left on his contract is in no position to be upset..." sort of hypocritical 4) Media war the list goes on. I would be disgruntled too if I was Revis. But I think the team's reluctance to negotiate right now is clearly illustrating their concern for Mangold and Harris. Because then the "Well what about me?" questions start coming from their camps.
For one thing he'd have less money in his pocket, especially if the lockout occurs and he doesn't get back for 2 years. I think he's already lost his year of eligibility for '10, but there are question marks as to whether or not that's actually the case.
I don't understand not talking guaranteed money until the total compensation is agreed upon AT ALL. What the hell? If it's a 10 year deal for 120 or 160, all that really matters is the guaranteed money. He will never see the full 120 or full 160 ever. It can be 10 years/120 mill with 50 mill guaranteed, or 10 years/160 mill with 50 mill guaranteed and it's basically the same contract. They should be doing this in reverse and talking about how much guaranteed should be in the deal before the full amount of the deal.

and it took the Cowboys starting 0-2 to get the deal done, I believe. ...and ultimately it may come to that with the Jets. If the Jets start off well, Revis is fucked.
You're missing my point. It's not about Revis..his camp is using points the Jets GAVE them. That's why I'm saying its sort of counter intuitive on the Jets part, the way they handled things.
