Thought this needed to get posted. Pool is consistently overlooked and I think he will make a big impact for the safety position this year. http://newyorkpost.com/p/sports/jets/pool_makes_big_splash_by_dishing_kIrVpiEFzzlR2ET7zH7TVP
In other news, Bill Gates is a little more wealthy than me. "I think he's a little more physical than Kerry," Leonhard said.
Thats part of the point of the defense. When players are interchangeable and they start walking around, you don't know who is going where. You know Sherry was not going in hard on run support
This is really good to see.... Pool has really flown under the radar but if he performs with versatility, HE will be the key component of this secondary...He will be able to blow things wide open and really leave the opposing offense completely guessing.
Sounds like Pool is getting more then just is feet wet. He's diving head first into this defense. Rex has said he's been soaking up information like he's sponge.
It would be so nice to have a physical presence at that level in the secondary. Think about how difficult that will be on receivers - they finally manage to get a step on Revis or Cro only to be cracked by a sledge hammer.
The concern for me is if he suffers from chronic migraines, I'm not sure that can totally be arrested...For a regular person, sure...But for someone who plays contact sports and takes blows to the head region, is it even possible? I'm not a doctor so I don't have an answer, and the answer could very well be yes. If he get can get those migranes under control we are in great shape...And in all honesty if he can't, I have a feeling Ihedigbo will be able to step in there..He has shown tremendous growth so far in camp.
Meh, Rockafella Mehta beat me too correcting you... Just awesome. WSW - nice call on the sledgehammer affect...
Pool gets consistently overlooked because nobody really believes that he can stay healthy all season. Hopefully he can pleasantly surprise us. I'd still like to see Dwight Lowery make the shift over to free safety at some point.
I'd like that as well.. But heres the problem IMO.... We currently have FOUR capable safeties on the roster....the other 2 very likely if not a lock to get into the rotation...I'm just not quite sure where Dwight fits into that area of the depth chart. At CB however, we have our all world CB holding out, and a rookie at nickel..Dwight's depth is much needed at CB and he really shores up the back end and obvious passing situations... It also takes a tremendous amount of pressure of Kyle Wilson. If Wilson gets off to a slow start Lowery can easily rotate with Wilson given the matchups. What i DO however wonder about Lowery is does he fit in the gunner position on special teams? When it comes to running straight lines, and keeping things in front of him, and not having to swing his hips he's quite effective. He may fit well in the gunner spot/dime corner/nickel rotation.
With the addition of Brodney and Cromartie we now have two ball-hawks in our secondary standing at 6'2, take it to the house at any moment....scary when you combine that with Revis and Leonhard.
Brodney is a good player but he's not a ball hawk...He's more of a lay a hit on you guy with average to slightly above average cover skills....His picks last year basically fell in his back pocket. Cromartie on the other hand...
Rex ran with a lot of 3 safety sets last season, and if Cromartie lives up to the billing may run with 4 safety sets this season. Teams will probably be running a lot of 2 TE sets, passes to RB's in the flats and screen passes against our aggressive defense - having a guy like Lowery playing as a safety in the box would be a terrific way to combat those things. He can either drop back to safety, cover a TE/RB or blitz. Of course the line between safety/corner/LB really blurs their.
